Best and worst vehicles from drivers point of view?

Hi all, I’m newly qualified class 2 driver and just out of interest I was wondering what are the best and worst vehicles to drive from the drivers perspective.

I’m thinking more about comfort, visibility, in cab features etc… Anything that makes it more enjoyable to drive rather than anything the operator would have to consider such as efficiency or price.

Is there anything that’s universally considered awful/the best by far?

Cant say I have ever been fussed what make the truck is as long as it pays well.

Out of interest is hino still in the uk market

Once had the misfortune to drive a Hino 8 wheel tipper. That has to be the worst I have ever driven. Absolutley no leg room as they are based on 5ft 5 inch Japanese drivers. My knees where constantly rubbing against the dashboard.

Some.of the daf trucks that have small opening window. The frame /post creates a bit of a blind spot at times and can be frustrating

Volvo and Scania used to be head and shoulders above everything else but the gap has closed now and a lot of it is down to personal preference. I’d sooner drive a well-specced MAN than a poverty spec Volvo.

Merc is at the bottom of the pile, other than that I don’t care what make I drive.

It was the tipper I drove, really basic inside but it done the job. When you hit a dip in the landfill you would be propelled towards the roof ha ha

I wouldn’t want to drive a hino or Mitsubishi canter. Other than that, they’re all much nicer than my 2008 daf, and the daf is nice enough for me, so crack on :grimacing:

No bad trucks anymore to be fair.

Got to agree, they have come a long way in a short time.
I know I moan abut my Actros,.but when I think of some of the crap I’ve driven in earlier times, it puts things in perspective…I stil think the Actros is shocking in comparison to other makes though, I can honestly say I have never heard any driver say they are a great truck.

Can’t wait to start in my mirrorless Actros (as long as my new boss hasn’t lied) hope I won’t be disappointed?

I’m also elderly enough to have started my career in a time when bad trucks were truly awful bone shaking migraine inducing wrecks. cough every ERF I ever drove cough

Scania I’m not a tramper, but I would tramp in this
Volo are good too
Merc don’t like the gearbox
Daf rubbish
Iveco/man -would not accept a 2nd shift I’m a agency bloke

In particular order

You will be

Best truck to drive is the one that pays the most money for spending the least amount of time in it…

I’d agree with that tbh but still as long as it’s not a Merc. I’d take a lower paid job than drive one of those ever again. Can’t stand the things.

Aye Iknow you’re getting on a bit Luke.
Tbf the ERF was very much of it’s time.
Maybe not as refined as a Scania or Volvo, but from an o/d’s pov, a fraction of the price of parts, and a truck with an excellent driveliine if you had the right combination (■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ imo)

Worst truck.

Mercedes Craptos

The vile pile of catsick has not a single redeeming feature. Not one. It is a abomination. It was designed by a psychopath with an intense dislike of truck drivers.

I’ve driven some junk as well, we all form our own preferences, I am Volvo forever but have to say the ‘next gen’ revitalised Scania a few years ago, from a driver’s point of view anyway.

I think it’s more noticable in rigids, I move a few around now and then. King of the 8 wheelers round here are Volvo, local lads have just got some new 8x4 new shape FMs and they are a nice motor. Mercs feel cheap and are not especially appealing to drive, Iveco ditto with the small Dafs not far behind. MAN seem to make a nice job of a 18/26 tonner but I have never used one in anger.
