Best truck to drive is the one that pays the most money for spending the least amount of time in it…
Exactly what this man said. Some “tangs” would take 10 quid a hour driving a v8 and spending there daily rest polishing it up, not for me thanks. The best truck doesn’t exist it’s more so the best job or which you prefer. The volvo and Scania boys can fight it out on here and slate the daf but the brand new daf will take some beating.

IVECO are the worst I’ve driven followed a close second by Mercs
Best is a Scania followed by MAN
Since I got back in the industry couple of years ago .
I drive a scania sleeper , automatic on a 68 plate.
Love it , very smooth decent acceleration and pulls ok.
My one complaint is the cab is a little cramped for nights out but adequate.
Nice seating position as well
the nodding donkey:
Worst truck.
Mercedes Craptos
The vile pile of catsick has not a single redeeming feature. Not one. It is a abomination. It was designed by a psychopath with an intense dislike of truck drivers.
Yeh, but apart from that, what do ya think?

That will be a G cab then , I drive a 2016 G cab yes the cab is a bit small but the truck drives ok and gets In to spots my coworkers XF’s struggle with
Loks like I’ll be getting another ■■■■ Actros, despite me suggesting to them to give me anything but…I suggested even second hand
Out of interest does anybody know what (if any) improvements have been made on the new Actros ‘L’ cab?
I’ve been told they are …quote… ‘‘Much better’’ than the existing (‘Big Space’ version ) cab.
True or b/s?
Btw don’t mention mirror cams,.I said ‘‘Improvements’’

If you ask them nicely. Mercedes offer normal mirrors as an optional extra
at a cost.
Actros now has the mirror option. After some regular customers wanted to switch motors they agreed it was loosing them business have been seeing lots of 22 plate Actros with mirrors.

Out of curiosity has anyone driven the new Daf with mirror cam are they the same as the actros, better or worse
As above, i’ve driven nearly everything over a lot of years, almost everything had good points but two vehicles spring to mind that, well maybe three, had little to enthuse over.
Volvo’s FL7 was dire, wouldn’t pull you out of bed.
Iveco 190/24 i think it was, was a wag’n drag my first car transporter, dear Lord what a heap.
But those two at least had some redeeming features, the modern Actros i can find nothing positive to say about the ones i’ve driven, the most recent of which almost everything was via touch screen, ended up using satnav as a speedo because couldn’t get rid of some message referring to cruise settings which completely obliterated the speedometer
, well done lads, couldn’t find the driver’s handbook and all i wanted to do was get out the heap anyway.
So bad that no matter the salary offered i’d turn the job down if one of those was the only option.
Going back to old British motors, well yes if it had a bloody Gardner 180 it was going to be an evil thing, but that would have been the case had that gutless engine been fitted to be most comfortable european wagon ever made (silk purses and sows ears), specced as said with a blown 14 litre ■■■■■■■ driving through a Fuller/Rockwell a Sed 401 or C series ERF would match anything the foreigners of the time produced, in most cases better to drive because so many of the euros hobbled their vehicles with pointless synchro boxes.
Anyone recall early Scania 112’s, the ones we had where i worked no rear dampers fitted which ensured a boneshaker ride worse than a 70’s Foden S39/ERF A series could condemn a driver to.

Rob, you know that my real opinion won’t get past the pre-mod filter…
all the negative about Mercedes but none of the other truck have Active Drive Assist or No hands steering. surely this is a game changer on long motorway trips

now the term steering wheel attendant will actually be real
Best for me was the Scania 113 with the 360 engine, terrific all round vehicle in it’s day, worst for me even tho I have always
found Volvos good was the F6s it was an awful thing.

The coppers in their tractor units are going to love that eh?
One hand drinking your pop, the other hand waving at them.
I remember a scania tractor unit I drove that had a clutch but was a automatic, it was not fun to drive as it was lacking any power

In what universe will no hands steering be a good thing, what happens when error 404 crops up and that heap decides to drive up a tree or up an oncoming school bus.
We all know who’ll be to blame, the fool behind the wheel who left the most important part of driving (on an equal footing with braking, which they’ve already allowed the vehicle to override) to a bloody electronic box of tricks, and the need for someone to blame is why there will always be someone in the vehicle to carry the can when all hell breaks loose.
Personally i’m in charge of the what the bloody lorry does, where it goes and when it brakes adjusts the steering and accelerates, if things go pear shaped i’m going to be the one facing the music, not the builder or designer or seller or maintenance tech, the driver will always be responsible so fight as much as you can the machine.

You needed to select MH and change gear yourself to get the best from those (and that hasn’t changed with the very latest models), the programming of opticruise wasn’t great, left to its own devices pulling out of junctions and steep hill climbing were dodgy, you could actually come to a grinding halt on a rapidly steeping hill because the box couldn’t keep up with deceleration in auto mode even in AH, MH gave faster changes than normal M, once used to the changes you could make good progress with one because the system allowed up to 3 block changes either way instantly and rapidly.
