Been offered a v8

Conor:
I don’t get it either. There was a young Irish lad in a Scanny pulling a Sawyers fridge in Lockerbie the other night picking up a set of chrome light bars he must’ve bought off someone and I thought he was going to cream his pants he was that excited.

I Someone at work who spends over £500 a month on a Ford focus rs finance. For me that’s insane. especially considering its mainly used for getting to work.
Myself I am quite happy driving a 20 year old fiat panda and keeping the 500 a month for myself.

Don’t forget the second mortgage for it’s insurance… :open_mouth:

Whats the problem?

Id much rather employ a lad who takes pride in the job and his unit then some noddy who laughs at such people and takes the ■■■■.

Its the same with shiny tank brigade.

People having no pride in the job is another reason the industry is in such a mess.

You know though there is a balance…

My unit is immaculate inside and clean outside. Everything is organised and has it’s place and is relevant to the job I do. I also have some mod cons to make nights out for me better along with factory fitted ones as my unit is not fleet spec.

What I don’t have is chrome light bars, hundreds of lights, dreamcatchers, flags, lightboards or frilly curtains which serve no purpose in a practical sense.

You can take pride in things without departing of your wages to tart up your bosses truck.

I thought someone was selling a Mandator when i read the title

The clue is…

In the thread title. ‘Been offered a v8’ which could also have been titled ‘Been offered another motor’.

It’s just another lorry, drive it or don’t drive it.

As others have mentioned, if you wanna pay me another £3 ph more to drive an old dog, as long as it’s legal…gimme the keys.

I’m a bit more fussy. Having driven a wagon where the heater matrix went and the owner decided that bypassing it and using the night heater was acceptable until he took it out one day and froze like I had been for the previous months, I add a working heater and a radio to that.

Which he inevitably sells or changes when the lease is up leaving you with the choice of seeing several weeks wage drive away for someone else to have for free or spend days removing to sell for pennies because they won’t fit on the new truck.

I can understand owner drivers doing it, I can even understand those working for O/Ds who run a few wagons as they tend to attract “enthusiasts” because more often than not the wages aren’t what you go there for. Someone who works for a company with a fairly large fleet though?

I don’t think the problem is drivers taking pride in the truck, but them taking the job because its a V8 Scania and then leaving because its a bit of hard work. Maybe they’re pushed a bit or maybe they want to spend their day polishing the truck instead of actually delivering goods.

This.

It irks me that some people might consider me as lacking pride in the job, just because I wouldn’t be interested in polishing fuel tanks and spending my own time & money tarting up a wagon.

Keep the kit tidy, drive in a proffesional manner and keep the paying customers happy should be the only boxes to tick.

That said, I’d never work for anybody that thought less of me because my trucks not photogenic.

TBH, its nice to get in a cab that suits, plenty of room, lots of storage, comfortable, and i dont give a ■■■■ whats under the bonnet…V6…V8…straight or twin turbo what does it matter so long as i get a good wage, ill take anything thats legal and suits. There have been occasions where ive been offered a new truck, but turned it down as its not as good as the one i have.

+1 Truckyboy

Having been doing brick and block work for the last couple of years and knowing how tight some of these building sites can be, my question is why would a boss want to pay for a flash v8 when say a 450 will earn him the same money.

When is a V8 not a V8?

When it’s Euro 6 hippie blancmange.

It’s like saying you’ve got a BMW V8, so what? A 351 Cleveland, a 350 SBC, or a 440 Mopar, yeah!

And I’ll still overtake and leave you standing with my Scania 380 on the flat…

Yeah chap at my place was eagerly telling me how he’ll be wiring up his next bank of lights on the front of his truck and how he’ll be in on Sunday to do it (in his own time).

I’m surprised he didn’t ask if I was having some form of stroke given how much I was screwing my face up…

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
if i was employing drivers again then i know which ones id rather have working for me…keen and mad for tar,or agency type british workmans union dobbers…bit of a no brainer.
