Been offered a v8

Do swap from my 16 plate fh500 that I’ve have since new for a 17 plate r580 v8 with lots of bling but it’s had 5 drivers, all v8 chasers who couldn’t hack it.

no brainer… no swap,

m.a.n rules:
no brainer… no swap,

Yep I’d swap my MAN for a Volvo but not a Scania

If a 17plate truck has had 5 drivers “who couldn’t hack it”…
What does it take to please that employer?
Does it come with a pay rise?
Or is increased productivity expected with no reward just so the new pilot can prove he can “hack it”?

Hack what?

Just curious …how do you ‘‘hack’’ a V8 exactly?

Hack not seeing out the window with the peekabo curtains and tassles

A V8 is a bloody good truck, last one I had was a 143 450, but a fairly modern one must be even better now.
My deciders would be …
Is it still clean enough inside and presentable to live in after all those drivers ?
If so bring it on, I’d love it.

Has it got V8 stickers on every panel (as if anyones remotely interested :unamused: ) or worse…stupid bloody slogans like ‘‘You’re never late in a V8’’ or ‘‘Living the dream’’ or such dog ■■■■…if so a resounding ‘‘NO’’ from me, but thanks anyway.

Brick and block job

It’s not a job swap I’m already with him and enjoy it. I’m just sick of v8 chasers coming Thinking they can do the job just cause it’s a v8. So told him to put me in it and fill the volvo.

I was wondering why you’d change jobs just for a truck and what was so hard about brick and block work, I managed to hack that with a Renault Premium  ,

But if you’re already working for him and you like the truck then why not?

It does amaze me why some people go Gaga about a Scania, did a trip with a blinged up 730 last year and found some of my fellow Scania drivers leaping out at various stops to get photos of it, and when the chap who owns it first got it, he had people offering to drive it for free, :open_mouth: I mean it’s a nice enough truck and quite flattered he trusted me with it, but I still expect to be paid my normal rate regardless of the make of truck.

Ask for 60 plate DAF CF and a £2ph pay rise instead

I love my truck (well his) just think we’ve got a better chance of getting a decent lad in the seat if they are not a v8 dreamer. I want him to sell the old company work horse and he go in the v8 but he’s wants keep the draw bar as it’s a good earner and he’s quite happy plodding around in it. There’s only 4 of us inc him, but after today it will soon be 3 as another dreamer is soon gone.

Maybe get him to tell the next prospective candidate that they’ll be going in the FH as you’ll move to the Scania, and if they say they’re not worried then they can have the V8 when they get there. :bulb: might put off the chasers and you can stay in a truck you know you’re happy with.

■■■■ straight.
For a £5 an hour raise I’d drive literally anything legal.

Nah, at interview tell them its a 13 plate DAF CF 460 and if they agree they are either:

  1. Ex agency and 13 plate is “new”
  2. Not worried about bling
  3. (Insane)

If they are still there after 2 weeks then give them the Volvo as reward or a 12 plate DAF!

Volvo = nice
V8 = headache
DAF 13 plate = major back pain

Btw, why do bosses buy V8s when they presumably use loads more fuel?

Am i missing something here?

Is i harder to drive a v8? Does one require a special licence?

Or is it just another unit to pull trailers?

If its comfy and clean drive it.

Dont tug over the thought of driving a unit. Ita a bit like a scoda driver creaming his pants over driving an audi.

I don’t get it either. There was a young Irish lad in a Scanny pulling a Sawyers fridge in Lockerbie the other night picking up a set of chrome light bars he must’ve bought off someone and I thought he was going to cream his pants he was that excited.

Yeah chap at my place was eagerly telling me how he’ll be wiring up his next bank of lights on the front of his truck and how he’ll be in on Sunday to do it (in his own time).

I’m surprised he didn’t ask if I was having some form of stroke given how much I was screwing my face up…

What constitutes a “dreamer”?
