Last night I went down to the lorry to put my gear in, in preparation for an early start in order to load in Murcia this morning. The lorry was parked in a nice residential area (quite normal in Spain) where I have been parking for donkeys years without any problems whatsoever.
During the previous night some scrote/s had come along and nicked the batteries!! No fuel had gone and the curtains hadnt been slashed, although I had left the trailer doors open. Whoever nicked the batteries very kindly left all the nuts, bolts, washers and bridging cable neatly laid out on the fuel tank.
As you will imagine my boss was not a happy bunny, not only have we now lost a load, but the batteries had to be replaced at a cost of €266.
What is interesting and worrying though is that the bloke in the truck spares shop on Guadalhorce told me that there has been a spate of similar crimes all over the Malaga area - one company Tranyser had 9 sets of batteries nicked overnight from their yard recently. Apparently the theory is they are being stolen for scrap, not as replacements for cash strapped owner drivers.
So if you intend parking overnight near Malaga, park on the service areas at Km222 on the A7 - at least they are patrolled regularly by the Guardia Civil and hopefully this might deter the theives.
have they been at it around Fuengirola? I usually park by Dunns store or the Beach by the Castle, but if they are robbing Batteries I might park further up or down the coast in the future…
mark, you know what happened to davey hotpot and you still park in the same spot
unfortunately spain is suffering badly in the crisis and ordinary people are feeling the crunch unemployment is on the up and resorting to petty crime is getting more frequent.
they are even going through the bins in some cities for food
as far as parking put your hand in your pocket and pay in mercamalaga 1.50 euros a night
24 hour patrolled security camera entry system and 24 hour bar and restaurant, bus stop outside 1.42euros from the house on the bus

Are you sure about that €1.50 a night? I thought it was per hour.
I always pull in there for a shower if I’m round that way, it seems to be littered with dumped UK regestered trucks for some reason

don’t know where that is jimti but def not mercamalaga? maybe CTM?
no dumped trucks in mercamalaga and don’t think showers either, but it is either 1.25 or 1.50 to get in to tip and if you park up its not frowned upon.
my boss pays 90 euros a year so that when we get to the gates we use the entry on the right “abonados” which is camera controlled and records entries. just a fruit and fish market but parking safe and bar and restaurant open 24hrs.
bus stop outside with bus every 20mins into malaga city centre
hombre parks near where we live in benalmadena and until recently we,ve never had any trouble until one of my colleagues had his batteries knicked but its because people are skint and now they’ve found an income from batteries
Oh yes…sorry I was thinking of CTM… I know where mercamaliga is tho, wouldn’t be too good for weekend parking tho
I will stick to parking near Dunns, they would like my truck, I have 4 batteries on it…
kerbut:
Where is Dunn,s in Malaga ?, I know where it is in Velez Malaga .
the one jimti is on about is in fuengirola on the side of the motorway in front of the waterpark.
the one in malaga is in the larios centre in the middle of the city and only once has a truck parked outside at night, it was a nolan’s and he woke up with most of his load missing
because apparently they’ve been told not to park outside the store overnight but common sense would tell you not to park outside a shop that sells expensive imported products in a city centre with a tautliner.but then when you pay peanuts you get monkeys
anyway my personal views on nolans have been posted enough so say no more

never can understand why another driver would find it funny that someone has been robbed or suffered some misfortune.
its not the driver glenman but if he’s stupid enough then its his own fault.
i simply found it funny at the time because they were quick enough to take the job for dunnes off more reputable irish hauliers for much less money by employing eastern european idiots so it couldn’t have happened to a nicer company
well i lost, sorry had stolen, about £30,000 pounds worth of stuff from the trailer in a small truckstop in holland, trailer was only a few months old and was slashed to pieces.took advice of were to park from the previous delivery which was in the local town and told it was a good place for a bite to eat and park yet still ended up robbed .you dont really have to be stupid to end up getting robbed and i didnt find it overly amusing,it can happen and could happen to you sometime. after all it has happened to the man who started this thread about the batteries yet he felt safe leaving his truck.

what makes you assume that it hasn’t happened to me? just because i found it amusing about nolans getting done i don’t find it funny that you got done, maybe the place you tipped sent you there and knew what you had on
i’ve got plenty slashes in my curtain the guy that repairs them in iniesta loves me for the work he gets but thats because people are hard up and need to rob to pay their way in the world and we’re soft targets

with you all the way there welshboy.
i have 2 friends that were driving for the irish haulier whom nolans cut the rate by 1000euro per load to malaga.
the haulier went down.
nolan still has the work as far as i know and his brigade of cheap imported drivers, pay peanuts get monkeys.
never a truer word.
good to see it happen to nolan.a more arrogant man you would never meet anywhere.
irelands answer to willi betz or stobart.

somebody who agrees with me for a change, what a nice surprise
welshboyinspain:
no problems near dunnes, frequently passed by plenty of people so would notice somebody taking batteries off and much easier to walk into funkytown
Only parked there once and had no problems, but was later advised not to.
