Coming across the M4 tonight the matrix signs were saying there is a wt limit on the A36 at Bath. I also saw signs up at Melksham area on the A350 saying the same thing.
Temporary measure or permanent?

Permanent Rob. They may pretend its temporary, but they’ve tried for years to get a weight limit in Bath, to stop the trucks. They just couldn’t get away with a 7.5 ton weight limit, because of the bus routes…
Cleveland Bridge weight limit Rob
Where are you coming from, and where are you going?

Bath weight limit?
Would that be a fibreglass or cast iron bath weight limit your wanting to know ?
With all these unhealthy Ginsters pies and missed steak dinners on Friday nights out, we don’t want you breaking the bath when you step in it
The 18 ton weight limit will be for 18 months , but there is no ANPR or CCTV to record drivers willing to run the gauntlet , and no busy body pretend police in hi-vis coffin dodgers .
Over 18 ton , you can still use the Lower Bristol road on the Western side of Bath , then Keynsham bypass to the Bristol ring road to the M32/M4 .
The locals will be writing to their local paper in quiver , saying how peaceful and quiet it is , without the thundering and menacing juggernauts and rogue drivers .
And no doubt contacting their MP for a permanent ban .

The residents of Westbury will soon be moaning I reckon as I had to divert through there on Wednesday coming back from Bournemouth and it was very busy with nasty big lorries

Rubbish - there are any number of locations up and down the country which have 7.5T limits for goods vehicles which don’t apply to buses.

Like bath lol. From Upper Bristol road into town is 7.5t, but busses use it. So do the bin lorries and skip lorries from the council depot

Haha. The residents of Westbury. I lived there for 10 years, and during that time there was a big todo about the bypass that the locals have wanted for decades. It was rather interesting, because the most vocal, and sometimes rabidly so, opponents, came from all over the country (actually bussed in on occasions… ) , not from Westbury. All the opposition was based on the detrimental effect that the Eastern Route (which was the only realistic option really) would have on some wildlife that lived on the chalk foothills. There was some concern that the road might cause noise nuisance to some properties on the Eastern village fringe ,and that the view might be somewhat spoiled.
So in the end, ths government gave up, and it was decided that it was better to not disturb some lizards, and keep the A350 (that is the main, and really only trunk road between J17 M4 and Poole/Bournemouth) crawling through Westbury.

That one is ‘exept for access’, you can go over it if you are delivering in Bath. Believe it or not, Bath actually has an industrial estate…

It is the old bridge near the fire station with a small building each side with pillars at the front. The trouble is part of one of these buildings has been knocked down again. By a lorry perhaps.

To be fair the bridge has lasted well with all those nasty thundering lorries using it considering it was built in the horse and cart era.

Yep, for my luck i often have to deliver in a artic to love honey on locksbrook road, which means going through a 3 ton weight limited road because it is a one way. Then coming out the easiest way is turn left onto newbridge road over the 7.5ton bridge then right back onto the A4.
