Steel motorway barriers (ARMCO - American Rolling Mill COmpany) seem to be disappearing and replaced by concrete ones (Jersey Barriers - developed by the New JERSEY State Highway Department, USA)
I can’t help feeling that HGV’s would have a bigger tendancy to flip over a Jersey Barrier whereas the Armco Barrier would have more “give”.

Maybe not.

concrete barriers bounce you back and less chance of a cross over therefore no need to shut road in both directions
Armco barriers were designed to deflect a one ton car travelling at 60 mph striking them at an angle of five degrees so in terms of HGV accidents they are about as much use as a chocolate fireguard.
To be honest if a truck is in an accident going from lane 1 to lane 3 violently then it’s just down to the gods whether it stays on the same carriageway or not.
Look at that one in Italy, just ploughed straight through it.
Me personally think they should be compulsory on every motorway and I also think they ought to be 5 ft higher, that way you’re killing two birds with one stone by having more protection and also a screen when it does go wrong.
It will be only us who can see over them then.

Like you said…instant screen and no car drivers rubber necking…
sod the barriers off,fit a steel spike on all vehicles facing towards the driver in the middle of the steering wheel, see how soon you do’nt need your barriers anymore.people get too complacent in their warm ■■■■■ vehicles when it’s minus 8,false security.
I once heard some Rdc drivers room bs that went along the lines of 'they are replacing with concrete so that when bikers come off they just slide off the concrete & not risk getting stuck in the metal"…:)

Totally agree and it seems that is what they are doing in most roadworks these days … seen a lot of stretches of mway converted to concrete barrier (although they are not making them 5 ft high) Bloody rubber neckers boil my ■■■■.
