Totally different to Beatles
The Beatles was the awakening
Oasis was jaw dropping
You actually and genuinely think The Beatles are over rated ?
Seriously though?
Btw if that is just because you know I’m a fan, and you did not like my Oasis opinion, so it’s to’ get one back’ there is no need. …or maybeyou are being tic.
If you do not like my opinion of Oasis, I’m sorry, I can’t help that…but that is all it is…my opinion.
I get it that they are a very successful band in their own right…(I even like a few of their tracks tbh) but still say they aint as goid as the hype that folows them that was all.
As for The Beatles, even if you hate them, you can not say they are over rated with anydegree of credibility, and that they did not literally revolutionise popular music,.(and even some artists today 60 YEARS later ! are still influenced by them.)
Music had gone stale in the early 60s after R&R something new was needed…
As Eric Idle on tv last night said…‘There was fumes of musical need in the air, and The Beatles were the catalyst for setting them alight’’ …or words to that effect.
They were the first ‘pop’ band to experiment with mashing and mixing different genres of music.
I aint talking their early 60s ‘‘pop pap’ stuff like ‘She loves you’ or ‘Wanna hold your hand’’ I mean later studio tracks like ‘A day in the life’, ‘The Walrus , ‘Come Together’, ‘Strawberry Fields’’ ‘‘All you need is love’’…the list is endless.
As for albums ''Sergeant Pepper. (the first ever concept album) is an absolute masterpiece.
The band was not a one trick pony, they had 3 absolute musical geniuses,.and that is/was what set them apart from any rival band since… they also wrote music for numerous other artists.
Nah sorry mate, if that genuinely IS your opinion,.I’d ask you to go back and listen to later Beatle tracks, keep an open mind,.and a re.think.
''Something wrong with anybody who does not like ’ ‘‘SOME’’ of the Oasis music?
I have already said I like SOME,…
I don’t even like SOME of the stuff from The Beatles.
I’m assuming you are from Manc?
I aint got a chip,.and if I aint keen on Manchester it is purely from a football pov.
There have been a couple of good Manc bands…Joy Division, Happy Mondays, 10cc, even as far back as ‘The Hollies’ and as contemporary as ‘The Cortinas’
Could not abide Morrisey and The Smiths.though…music to commit suicide to imo.
Thig is mate without The Beatles there would be no Oasis…fact., there lies the difference.
,.and I sure as hell bet Noel Gallagher would be the first to agree.
Jeez man I’m enjoying this musical discussion, it’s right up my strasse…much better than politics, Trump,.and illegal 'kin immigrants.
Bloody hell Franglais seriously man ?
You have finally impressed even ME at last with that…
I would have had you down as a middle of the road/easy listening man,…a big fan of ‘The Carpenters’ and Perry Como’ ..no offence.
(Impressed me that much I am even being polite now btw )
Yep agree…although their later stuff was good Owner of the lonely heart etc
First 3 on list great bands last 3 not so much imo.
Incidentally Queen got their first big break suppoorting MTH.. , hence the lyric in the early Queen single (Now I’m here) ‘Down in the city just Hoople and me’…a useless piece of info, but I get carried away with this type of stuff.
Hmm not sure about that…I’ll stick with Kim Wilde…in ANY pub.
Nah me either, …could not think of anything worse than in a cold wet tent surrounded by mud…maybe if in a luxury camper or an hotel room though.
Let it be known on Sun 6 June Rob and Franglais discovered mutual common ground and agreed.
(I’m sure normal service will be resumed anytime soon.)
I can (could) cope with a small festival, a single stage and perhaps a dj tent round the back somewhere. The concept of many stages and having to plot your days to what you want to see and consequently what to miss, feels like too much of a trade off.
Though I think I figured out last week my tent hasn’t been unpacked for over 10 years, I don’t know if i’m too old for all that now.
njl, that’s exactly the reason why I could never do Glastonbury Festival for FOMO, as I would want to be everywhere at once to see the bands I want to see.
The residents of Pilton all get free tickets as years ago they complained about the noise.
The volunteers, such as litter pickers and charity volunteers all get free entry, I hear the traffic and pedestrian marshals get decent pay.
On the subject of Oasis and their UK tour, the hotels have really capitalised on the event with normal room rates costing four times more than the going rate.
There’s a plethora of hotels in Cardiff that were showing prices of £1500 per night.
A hostel with triple bunks , in a mixed sex dormitory that’s normally about £20 per night per person was asking for £200 per night.
I’ve done a few hostels around the world as they are so cheap but if you have insomnia, fill your boots as some selfish guests go sight seeing all day then return to the dormitory at 02.00 am to pack their suitcases to go the airport.
Then there is the bodily functions and bodily gases to contend with and the snoring.
Most of the European hostels have mixed sex showers with no cubicle.

I would have had you down as a middle of the road/easy listening man,…a big fan of ‘The Carpenters’ and Perry Como’
..no offence.
That is offensive!
Led Zep, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath were also very high on my list, but never saw them live.
I am also a big fan of Frank Zappa, and many Blues artists.
Festivals?

Pretty much agree there.
Weeley was great as a 16 year old, but not for me now. However I definitely would go to Timbuktu if the politics ever allow the Blues in the Desert festival again. No mud and rain there, and arguably the true home of the blues.

Led Zep, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath were also very high on my list, but never saw them live.

Yep again first 3, loved them when I was younger.
I was kinda ‘introduced’ to that type of stuff after going to tech college, and getting on with a different group of mates with different tastes to me and my mates at home who more or less just listened to commercial stuff as boys at school…
I think the ‘rockiest’ stuff we listened to then was Status Quo, in the days when even they were ‘cool’ and before they kinda sold out…Remember ‘Roll over lay down’‘’?
Best Quo track ever imo.
I
We used to swap.LPs as we called them then, and tape them on cassette.
Frank Zappa?..hmm a bit too ‘far out’ even for me.
I did try listening to him once, but only cos I heard him mentioned on Deep Purple’s ‘Smoke on the water’ track.
Btw how could I forget David Bowie on my ‘‘Wish I had seen’’ list’'.
Favourite track?
Bit of a curveball in fact.
‘‘Fashion’’…
Allegedly most of the performers/artists and VIP’s were staying at the exclusive and very expensive Babbington House hotel near Mells, to be flown in and out.
A return flight from London would set you back about £13,000, for a bigger and more luxurious helicopter with a hamper and champagne expect to be paying £18,000 or more.
The artists were renting out large stately mansions which may explain according to Flight Radar the collections originated from large arable farms and estates with large swimming pools.

Holly Willoughby and Glastonbury VIPs blasted by locals for 'insane' decision
Holly Willoughby and other VIPs have been criticised for taking helicopters to Glastonbury Festival, despite the event's green policies and a number of celebrities giving speeches on the environment
Good on Holly she can afford it so why not.
I’m sure a few unwashed crustys and masculine lesbians negative opinion’s on her will not bother her (very) pretty little head one iota…she can do no wrong for me.
If I had her money I’d be doing the same…in fact she could even ride on my chopper whenever she wanted. .
Probably the best option with reports of grid locked traffic for 5 hours or more in the surrounding roads and lanes.
I don’t think Phillip Schofield let Holl’s sit on his chopper.
What happens in the green room, stays in the green room or cupboard for a sock puppet.

Frank Zappa?..hmm a bit too ‘far out’ even for me.
His output was huge and very varied. He had an obituary from Natalie Wheen on BBC R3 if I remember correctly? Sting guest performed/jammed “Murder by Numbers” with him at one concert. He gave Alice Cooper his first start.
My introduction to Zappa was through some Mothers of Invention albums, but I feel in love with the guitar on Hot Rats album.
Joe’s Garage is a bit more conventional musically: a full length “opera” without too much classic or jazz influence!
I may give it a listen.

Btw how could I forget David Bowie on my ‘‘Wish I had seen’’ list’'.
That is a good shout actually. I’d put Bowie on mine also.
Cheers…you aint answered my Beatles question yet.
Do you really believe they are ‘over rated’ ?

Cheers…you aint answered my Beatles question yet.
Do you really believe they are ‘over rated’ ?
Over rated is probably the wrong phrase but when it comes to The Beatles I’m fairly ignorant. Maybe I should try harder and listen to more of them but honestly can take them or leave them.
Taking nothing away from them like, I realise they were one of the most important and influential groups ever.
Like Ledwidge said.. its possibly a generational thing but I’m definitely more ‘Little by Little’ than ‘Let it Be’

Maybe I should try harder and listen to more of them
Thing is mate if you LIKE the stuff Oasis does, you will LOVE the Beatles later stuff…trust me.
It could open up a new musical horizon to you.
(Not taking the pi55 either btw, being entirely serious.)
Liam does ‘try to’, (sorry ) perform in the style of Lennon, he’s his no1 fan…(he even called his boy after him…Lennon Gallagher, or is it Kensit?
Tbf he has sang a lot of good stuff.
Start with ‘I am the walrus’ and ‘Lucy in the sky’, and i f it works better for you…pretend it’s Liam you are listening to having a good day…(just joking btw mate.
)
I do like ‘Lucy in the sky’ actually, great tune. I also liked that latest one that was released. Was it a couple years back or maybe even more recent? An unreleased tape or something.. cant remember name of it but really good song
