Ballinalard idiot boss

a few weeks ago, i asked the transport manager at ballinalard transport if he was taking anyone on?
he was. we had a chat, and he offered me a job.
he asked me for a copy of my licence, and driver cpc.
the licence isn’t a problem, but i don’t have a driver cpc, as i don’t need one yet.
everyone needs a driver cpc, you have to do one module each year since its’ introduction. he said.
no i don’t, and if you don’t know the rules, what the [zb] are you doing in that job? goodbye.

I think many are thinking along those lines, there are more and more non-jobs appearing in agency adverts asking for a C+E licence, 6 years experience and a driver CPC. They either don’t know that it doesn’t come into force until September 2014 or they are frightened they may have to stand some or all of the costs.

I think you’ll find he’s not an idiot. The it’s been implemented in Ireland is that they’ve made it a legal requirement to do one days training a year. We had this situation with the UK drivers such as myself. They kept telling us to do it (they’re not paying btw) last year. Took an email from someone quite high up in the RSA (Irelands VOSA) telling them those of us with UK licences didn’t have to comply.

he knows i have a UK licence. so he should be aware that i don’t need a DCPC.
also the constitution in ireland prevents anyone from being stopped from driving for not having a DCPC.

The point of the post was that most companies in Ireland are not aware it doesn’t apply to those with non Irish licences. Also is that a my mate told me with regards the constitution? When after 2014 everybody needs one if that’s the case then they’ll have to change it as the state would contravene EU law

no it’s not a my mate told me.
i found out about it while over there. it was on the radio regarding o’licences.
once an o’licence is issued, it can’t be taken away. the same goes for an hgv licence, but only if it is your main source of income.
the constitution states that you can not have yours means of making a living taken away.

I had this same thing, fortunately I did an ADR course so I completed my 35 hours and have DCPC valid until 2019. Do Virginia expect you to arrange your DCPC with a UK training company and pay for it yourself?

What are the pay and terms/conditions like at Ballinalard? Did you go to Tipperary to see them or have an interview on the phone?

about 700 euro a week was mentioned. i told him i’d do about 3 weeks away and 3 days at home.

Do you live in the UK? Bring the truck home with you for the 3 days?

You beat me to that post about asking for the dcpc, was going to put that up last week, but you have raised a good point limeyphil.I thought it was odd for those firms to ask for that when not needed till 2014.

I think once VOSA have taken over in Norn Iron the attraction of working from the South may be a little less attractive :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m a professional burglar,

Just caught up with this thread. Yes the Irish Government gold-plated the regs.

Can I just clarify something? When you say you don’t need a CPC yet on a UK licence, I take it you mean a non-resident UK licence holder rather than a resident one?
