Background on monarch

Hi all,
I am making another attempt to find a company who will train an experienced driver on fuel tankers,I am in the process of contacting Monarch Personnel in Wigan who apparently work with BP. My question is,does this make Monarch an agency who recruit for BP or can you work for the fuel companys direct? Also, could anybody give me any background on Monarch Personnel or personal experiences with Monarch. I have tried searches on this site and also the net and come up with nothing.
The one burning question I have, Is the fuel delivery industry busier in the spring/summer months than the winter/autumn months? I ask this because it seems like the industry advertises for drivers around this time of year every year.
I absolutely appreciate any information or background you can give and I shall keep this thread updated as I hopefully go through the process. Cheers.

They were "master vendor " for Tesco agency drivers etc , my experience of them would only leave me to advise you not to go anywhere near them in any way .!!! .

Monarch personell are an agency
They supplied drivers to bp at Birmingham but they were paid less then the contract blokes. Fuel delivery is far busier in summer. Baring in mind that in the airport world summer season usually starts april and ends end of October. Both airports I worked at used actual tankers for fuelling. One wpuld pump an average of 500k litres a day in summer, the other went through 2 million a day. So you will be busy. Most airport fuelling companies now only take on for 6 months to cover the summer but recruit now to train u up. No personal experience of monarch so cant comment on them

Thanks shugg, degsy, advice taken on board, I have a telephone interview on Friday (bizarre) I’ll will see what info.i can get from that,I’m not giving up my current job just yet.cheers.

Why do you need an agency to train you? Get your ADR in tanks if you don’t have it & then apply for jobs.

Hey silver surfer,I have adr in tanks/packages,the tanker/fuel delivery is where I want to go which requires further training.cheers.

Hiya m8 , don’t forget you’ll need the new tanker passport to work in the industry, all tanker drivers delivering fuel will need it by jan 15 , if your ADR is due you will do it then, if you have just renewed it you will have to take an external exam to gain it.

I worked for Monarch 2 years ago, I was an aircraft refueller at Manchester. I left as my mother was ill and I needed to look after her. Job was easy but after about 6 months I found it was boring and I needed to get back on the road… I’ve worked on fuel tankers before I went in the airport and returned to it afterwards. Best way to get in fuel is to take a class 2 position with one of the smaller fuel distribution companies do this for about 6-12 months then start applying to a few of the bigger companies - though in this day and age you will probably only get taken on via an agency subbing to Hoyer/flexigrid ect

Fuel is busier in the winter months not summer, the reason you see advertisements is for fuel drivers is to cover holidays ect…
Most major airports are hydrant and fed by underground pipeline therefore you only mainly drive a dispenser vehicle at an airport rather than tankers…

If you work at an airport fuellinh is busier in summer as its holiday season amd more flights means more fuel. Well at least in the two airports I worked at it was busiet in summer. Agency are re recruited march/april to train and give them a chance to get to the required speed by the time summer season kicks in.

Thanks for the replies, appreciated,I had a telephone interview today, going through my licence I was asked if I had been banned in the last ten years, well I was banned for six months eight years ago for totting up  I can re-apply in two years when my “master criminal” tag has run its course :unamused: blood has been boiling all day and is at a simmer at the moment…unfortunately I can only blame myself or the cat so here goes

Thanks for all the replies and comments.

Hiya mate, so sorry to hear your bad news , just as a by the by, you did re-apply for your HGV entitlement back aswell as your car licence didn’t you?? After your ban. Cos they will only renew your car unless you request the HGV entitlement.

Cheers optidrive,I laughed in scorn at your post and thought “of course I checked” :unamused: and then came the cold sweats and realisation that in fact,I don’t think I have checked since I got it back 8 years ago

Just checked now and yes I have my entitlement back  cheers opti.

You will also need a load & discharge assessment every year with an annual classroom refresher and the only way this can be done is if your already in the industry , this passport will make it even harder to enter the industry !

I also applied to monarch & got an email saying I’d passed the initial vetting process & that they wanted to arrange a telephone interview. A few days after I remember getting a PFO email but now I’m looking for it & I can’t find it, logged back into my profile on their site & the status of application says ‘under consideration’, strange, never heard from them since… :frowning:

Sorry, for bringing back an old thread, but just wondering if anyone worked or still works for Monarch/BP, and what are they like to work for?
Any info would be appreciated.
if you do not like to share it on the main board, just pm me , please.

You’ll be lucky to get anything out of them work wise, they’re just like any other agency I guess. I had to ring & ask them to delete all my details from their database.
Do you know anyone worth knowing at monarch/bp?

no, I know nobody, but have spoken to someone at their office, and they said they might be looking for drivers in and around London.
Just wondering, what chance there is of getting employed by BP after sometime of working through Monarch, and whether you get paid holidays when employed by Monarch.

Very little chance from what I’ve heard/gathered, you get a full time contract with guaranteed hours, uniform etc so you probably get holidays too, it’s the in thing with employers these days.

Weird, I just had a phone call today from monarch about an aircraft refuelling job at Edinburgh airport I applied for almost a year ago. I’ve got a telephone interview on Monday for it and they’re holding interviews at the airport next month so there must be jobs available.
