Amen to that.
What is one of that them there sat navs ? . . sound like the work of the devil i tell thee.
Oh puuurrrrrrlease
When was the last time Mr Grayling used a map? Oh wait you don’t need them on tax payer funded trains/taxis etc…
Ffs dicks will be dicks with or without a sat nav! Suppose no truck ever got stuck on rural roads before the advent of sat navs
It’s a lack of simple common sense, that these incidents happen.
I actually agree with this. A bit of route planning by using a good old fashioned map prior to starting a journey would probably reduce all the mishaps drastically. Planning your route on a map means you are more likely to stick to main roads and not end up on single track farm roads etc. By all means use a satnav for the last mile.

And maybe the tossers that reside in Westminster should stop claiming thousands of pounds on expenses for stuff like cleaning out their fishpond and a using a private jet to fly to Aintree for the Grand National. Waste of oxygen that lot apart from Mr Dennis Skinner.

Complete nonsense… Do you think everyone that uses a Sat-nav is a div? I have a map, I’ve opened it once in the 8 months I’ve had it. Not got stuck under a bridge or in a field or up a farm track using my Sat-nav.

Agreed, personally if I’m going somewhere new I check route in my atlas, then use sat nav to guide me in.
Also, to me, using a Sat nav is no different to using my old regional a-z. It’s just an electronic version. If I got to road that looked dodgy following my a-z l wouldn’t have just gone for it. Same applies for sat nav now

Not everyone but those that rely on them, yes = div.

Don’t recall insinuating that anyone was a div. But since you mention it, yes, the ones that get stuck down farm tracks cos their satnav told them to go that way are divs. Like I say, people are more likely to to stick to the main roads if planning their route on a map first.

Give it time lad, give it time…
Regards. John.
So the 2 examples they use are one from 2007 and another from 2011,in the meantime HGV drivers have collectively travelled possibly over a billion miles throughout the country without the world imploding…

Opened your map once in 8 months! Hope your sat nav never packs up you would be screwed
I’ve been driving HGV class one for 6 years and class 2 before that for 3,always used sat back, never used/needed a map…never run into a bridge, got stuck down a lane,or fell off the edge of the earth.
Things evolve maps are from the past, they never have and never will make someone a better driver,I take it that before sat navs hgvs NEVER got stuck down lanes, hit bridges or anything else these people blame on sat navs?
Sat Navs are ace. By slagging them off you’re just announcing to the world that you don’t know how to get the best out them
Oh no, I put the postcode in and it sent me to the wrong street. Oh no, my sat nav sent me into a canal.
User error, go back to the 70s with your flares, Ford Cortina and twin tub washing machine

I actually had a Cortina mk 3 with vinyl roof and an 8 track stereo
I use mine all the time, even when I know where I’m going It helps with arrival time, junctions ahead/roundabouts etc. Helps me with planning ahead in plenty of time - even on familiar roads.
When sent to a new place I’ll put address in and check route, if it’s unfamiliar and unfamiliar roads I just double check with bridge atlas etc. If used sensibly and treated like an electronic A - Z they are invaluable
These drivers that are getting stuck, I take it they are using car sat-navs and not HGV specific sat-navs?

NO - I use a car sat nav in a 32 tonner delivering to alot of rural places.
As has been said by others l always cross ref with a map first, last few miles or so.
However one of our other drivers does use a truck nav and only this week we were going to the same place. My car sat nav was telling me 20 miles shorter than his truck nav. Looking at the map and after arriving mine was right
Truck navs are ok if your delivering to towns and cities but Cr*p for rural locations as they will always take you the longest way around.
Sat navs are good but i personally always cross ref
as other OPs have said another MP who does not have a clue, even if you do plan your route by map is it going to show how narrow some of these roads can be,answer no,nobody knows, unless you see the usual signs ie not suitable for HGVs
