There is such a thing as agricultural haulage ,we sometimes have to drive down rural single track roads. What would happen if we were to change places with the politicians A no one would notice.
B we would ■■■■ up the country or C they would ■■■■ up haulage.
truckman020:
as other OPs have said another MP who does not have a clue, even if you do plan your route by map is it going to show how narrow some of these roads can be,answer no,nobody knows, unless you see the usual signs ie not suitable for HGVs
Another motorway driver
You do it your way and ill do it mine pal.
Does not have a clue- sorry pal ive only been doing it for 22 years, way before the sat nav you obviously rely on so much
If an MP told me not to use a sat nav I’d go straight out and buy one! Perhaps he should concentrate on getting his own house in order before jumping on his big white horse to issue unwanted, unneeded, and unwelcome advice!
SuperMultiBlue:
These drivers that are getting stuck, I take it they are using car sat-navs and not HGV specific sat-navs?
To be honest my HGV sat Nav routing sometimes leaves a lot to be desired! Especially 7.5t limits…but as others have said you use your truckers atlas too and common sence [emoji4][emoji4]
for once there is an mp who knows what he is talking about
they should ban the use of sat navs altogether for hgv drivers as far to much damage is going on because they can not be bothered to plan there route first, its not rocket science, its what we did before sat navs came along
they should treat sat nav usage like they treat mobile phone usage, make it an offence to use them, that should sort out the men from the boys in the driving game i mean if they can not use maps or find there way around without a sat nav then they shouldnt be being paid the same rates as drivers who can get around without them as there not doing the job are they, the sat nav should get a bit of there wages lol

You do spout some rubbish and that is not bad by your standards.
How about TNUK bans posters (not all, just you) who can’t spell? Or ban posters that don’t use punctuation?
You know, sorting man and boy out and just paying them for their knowledge!
I have one of those bridge height maps… it’s massive, carrying it around is a right pain. I personally would use google maps and have a look then the sat nav with the height set the whole route, using it as guidance. Sometimes a drawn map/directions from fellow drivers is the best thing

i take it your a sat nav type of driver then ?
could be worse as you could be a rigid type of sat nav driver, please dont get me started on those types

No we didn’t. What we did do was ask Old Fred in the yard the best way to somewhere. Fred would then draw a map in the crap on the back of the trailer which you’d commit to memory or scribble down on a bit of paper. You then drove to the town, stopped at the nearest petrol station and asked directions there or if you were lucky enough to be in a place covered by an A to Z you drove your 38 tonne truck through the town/city holding the steering wheel in one hand whilst trying to hold the A to Z in the other and change gear and follow it over several pages at the same time.
Satnavs are infinitely better than the crap that went on before. Just because you and your mates are too thick to work out how to use them properly doesn’t make them bad.

I’ve been driving HGV class one for 6 years and class 2 before that for 3,always used sat back, never used/needed a map…never run into a bridge, got stuck down a lane,or fell off the edge of the earth.Things evolve maps are from the past, they never have and never will make someone a better driver,I take it that before sat navs hgvs NEVER got stuck down lanes, hit bridges or anything else these people blame on sat navs?
Have you ever driven anywhere other than a motorway?

No never,I leave all my deliveries in motorway slip roads for the customers to collect.
Today I have 13 deliveries around Stockport/Manchester so if your in the area keep aware when joining or leaving the motorway for start pallets at the side of the road.
Hardly driving anywhere remote is it. Imagine working on a Saturday. Gosh.

Ok
Here’s an example for you. Navigate to the point on this map with a sat nav. Then tell me how many times you get stuck or go down prohibited roads.
Because drivers are only using sat navs they are not learning there way around, early last year me and another driver was taking things from Scunthorpe to Barnsley going M180 M18 A1 then across to Barnsley. He can only work with sat nav but M18 is shut with accident so I go right onto M18 M62 A1 then across unload and back and he’s still sat there.

No,you see I could pop a screen shot of one of the many rural drops we do around the South and south west wales area and ask the same if you…but I won’t because the whole thing will I suspect become incredibly boring.
I do urban and rural deliveries, technically that make me multi skilled
Sorry didn’t know you were multi skilled. Wow.
