Your mate is either an RDC artist who believes that himself, or he is winding you up.

btw…When you go back on rigids it’s the law that every artic driver you meet you have to tell them you drive them yourself.
Every rigid driver I have come across does this to me.

In the distant past you were required to confirm that you had driven PSV’s recently but as far as I know this has never applied to HGV’s.

I have just renewed my licence for both HGV and PSV and there was no requirement to confirm that I was driving them regularly.

I have noticed that some employers require you to have driven HGV within last six months, this could be an insurance company obligation.

Your m8 is suffering from a touch of verbal diarrhoea must have picked it up in some greasy spoon

To be fair, it’s the sort of thing I tell my mates, and when I think about it there are at least 2 who would be daft enough to believe it.

+1

Legally speaking, no but you might need to spend some time getting used to it.

Reversing can catch you out after driving artics.

And wide sweeps. I reckon I’d be hopeless in a rigid now.

This ^^^ the last bit lol has to be done,we drive rigids once in a blue moon and reversing well has to be seen lol well funny all over the place,I get out look and like really? Who moved the bay over there? :grimacing:

I’d love to see the more experienced artic drivers having a go at the maneuvers in a rigid box / curtainsider as it’d make the newbie artic converts feel soooo much better about their attempts (I know I’ll be hopeless!).

As for the original question - I was talking to a guy recently who’d just been taken on by the company I was limping for and he’d been away for 10 years, and after the medical the only other issue he had was insurance being a little iffy to start with as he was seen as a newbie. No issues with licence entitlements however.

Lol funniest thing I have seen all the night! Ya never know mate you might wake up Tomorrow morning and your entitlement has been scrubbed of the back of ya card lol!!

A bit harsh, looks like I maybe don’t have a brain either then.
I had to move one out of a yard to get tipped one day recently, and I must admit it threw me at first.

I had to shunt a rigid around our yard the other night, good God what a shambles. First off you turn the steering wheel the wrong way when reversing. Secondly, they turn like supertankers!
The only positive from that experience was that nobody died!

And you can take a cheeky 15 on the pumps with out the risk of someone pulling the pin.

Watching some drivers perform would indicate that there is a massive deficit in that department.

I once did a week for a mate who ran a class 2 on own account work for a major restaurant chain,I took a week off from my job driving artics to cover for him.
The first day was a night mare,I was turning the wheel the wrong way when reversing,I was driving too far forward before turning and then not been able to make the turn,It takes some getting used to…
Also found it weird when turning you look in your mirrors and no trailer is there.
Was ok after first day,and I’d drive one again if money was ok
