Axor tips

Never parked my derriere on a Merc seat before. Starting a new contract on Thursday and they have Axors. Not sure if manual or auto. Any tips to look out for would be appreciated.

My tip is don’t listen to negative bs about them. They’re ok for day work and occasional night out. Not really a trampers motor. Modern day erf imo. I’m not a big fan of the manual, double h knock box. The auto is adequate if a little slow but on the whole there are worse trucks on the market

If its auto dont try and rush it to reverse,it wont happen, the axor was built for work, nowt else

Ask Pimpdaddy. He loves them.

Go to the Scrap yard, do not pass go, do not collect your £200.

Haven’t driven the new shape, but i do like the old one in manual form, auto takes a bit of getting used to lever wise, and its about as slow and generally as pointless as the ZF AStronic, fortunately the huge torque at low revs helps at junctions and pulling away.

They seem a bit basic with rough edges at first but once you get used to them they are a good working motor which won’t fall apart on you, the engine will pull right down to 800 rpm without the slightest protest, brakes might seem a bit all or nothing till you get used to them.

Mid lift very useful in that the driver has (or has had on all the ones i’ve driven) complete control of it.

Oil level on the menu, not much else to tell really, simple and non the worse for it.

Yea ,get ready for it

Driven quite a few in the past and there really isn’t that many tips I can think of. They are basic trucks with no gadgets to play with. As mentioned, the feel of the brakes take a bit of getting used to. I like driving them though. Much better than a CF anyday IMO.
I’m not sure if this is just me or not. When you are reversing onto a bay or in to a space etc in an axor, look in one mirror and trailer looks perfectly straight, but look in the other mirror and the trailer looks squint.[emoji15] [emoji15] [emoji15] Never understood how this happens.

+1

They’re ok.
Mine is an auto and if you’re getting one don’t expect quick pull aways on roundabouts etc.
Bunk is adequate if a little on the firm side.
The saddle can be a little hard on the arse after a days work.
Very basic but capable motor.

They have a bit of the Seddon Atkinson about them, they are generally operated by those who pay proper wages, I’ve driven hundreds of them and only broken down twice, a perfectly good truck.

Well said " mike 68 " a sensible post , like you I have driven then for some time and they have never but never given me any problems .

Back in my rigid days, had an 1824 manual (12 plate) for a bit. No frills, but a very capable bit of kit. I think I still hold the record for getting to Charing Cross in that.

My tips are cable tie your front licence plate, when it says add 4 litres of oil only add 2 litres. Always add half of what it wants.

If the air cleaner filter housing behind the cab has not got a fairish dent in it from overshooting on the couple up just hit it with something big to marry it in with the rest of em.

I thought DAFs were the worst trucks until I drove a Merc…

We had a Arocs on hire a while back and if you switched the engine off in reverse it broke it, wouldn’t start and had to get a engineer out. The Axor we had on hire recently, the lift axle wouldn’t lift whilst towing a empty decker, which was a bit lively in the wet, might have been something wrong with that particular vehicle though.

You might love them, but like I said I prefer DAFs to mercs

Why did you switch off in reverse I take it in gear and it lost air pressure same problem as volvos

Volvo default to neutral, only the lever position is “in gear”
