awkward bays

Tipped earlier this evening at Euro Stock in Hindley Green getting onto the bay there involved a blindside reverse between a building and wall, there was a huge amount of damage on the wall went into the office and said “thats a wee bit tight there” to which the reply was “yep one man took nearly 4 hours to get on there” does Mr Awkward design these type of bays on purpose and then spend the rest of his life chuckling to himself

try this place. it’s [zb]ing ridiculous.

you have to fold your mirrors in or you’ll hit the lorries next to you.
and if you’re a fat bloke forget it. you ain’t getting out of your cab.
i’m not exagerating.

Our bay 20. The lines are not parallel.

Should have got a Stobbies driver in,they are supposed to be good at,“The dreaded blind side reverse!”

Eurocarparts Tamworth does my head in , it shouldnt be as bad as it is but due to the fact its packed solid with piles of junk and the yard was built the wrong way around its laughable . If you include the fact that the approach road is not wide enough it makes you wonder how much it cost to design it . I could have done a better job myself .

The worst of it is, it often seems that its the brand new buildings that are the worst these days. You half expect it from an old mill in Lancashire or Yorkshire but not a purpose built warehouse that went up in 2008 for example.

I really don’t like the goods in bays under the canopy at tescos Hatfield. They are ok until there is empties opposite the bays.

The bays at guinness Preston brook for loading out are a pain too when there are tankers dropped opposite.

(yes I know they are probably easy to some but its just my opinion!)

Tesco (store not DC) at Widnes. The lines on the floor don’t actually bear any resemblance to the position of the bay? Follow the lines back and you’ll hit the side of the bay

Woolworths at Swindon used to be tight, if you had artics lined up on the bay’s all the mirrors would more or less be touching.

LOL the curse of the boss eyed line painter

My first driving job was for a local dairy doing milk deliveries into the big supermarkets. One day I commented on the fact that most of the newer built Tesco stores in the area had yards laid out with the loading bay requiring a blind side reverse of some sort. Don’t know how true it is but I was told that the reason was due to most of these stores being designed by a firm of French architects.

Also for those that remember it the fresh produce bays at sainsbury’s hackbridge DC we’re always interesting. With the yard tapering off in front of it it was almost impossible to get onto the right hand bay with truck in the next bay. You reversed down a ramp and the you didn’t have enough room in front to get lined up. Backing on at an angle the trailer leaned over as soon as you got onto the ramp and the bays were so tight that you’d be on the truck in the next bay.

Did anyone ever go to Hinzs kitt green wigan in the late 80s. Now that was blind side between 2 parked turck with no one watching and fork lifts dashing all over the place a long with the tractor trains they had at the time.

My god was it a pain with a twin steer 2035 merc with not windows in the rear of the cab. Much better with one of the 1628s 4x2s lol.

Cheers

Oh yes…and if you had one of the single axle trailers…could real interesting real quick!

Not had too many nightmare ones as yet, but I hate going to Lidl at Enfield with a passion - they always seem to squash all the lorries in to a block of 10, and leave the rest of the bays untouched. As there’s always other lorries parked in front of the bays, and there isn’t much space to begin with, it can take ages (for me anyway).

The other which occasionally causes me problems is PSL at Maldon - shame really as I go in there most days! The lines which used to mark the bays are long gone, and there isn’t really anything to line up on as you reverse, apart from the rubber buffers, which are almost invisible at 5AM. Sometimes takes a few shunts - I can get into the area straight off, then need to shunt to get properly centred on the bay. No complaints otherwise with PSL though - always get tipped or loaded with no dramas, no messing about handing keys in or sitting in the cab, and paperwork always ready.

3663 at Paddock Wood springs to mind (with a frozen load anyway). Brand new site but bays built that close to the fence that if you have a truck either side you aint going anywhere until one of them moves.

Designed by a suit with an “ology” obviously. :imp:

And if you were in a 7.5 tonner, you had no chance of getting out the cab.
