Avon and Somerset police lorry

If they catch some of them foreigners who watch their laptop whilst driving…then its worthwhile…
If they catch drivers whose limiter is set above mine at 56mph…then good luck to them, because although the argument is the fact the legal limit for a hgv on a motorway is 60mph, a driver can and will be prosecuted for exceeding the limit of a speed limiter…and it is an infringement…i have been asked to sign one by our t.m.
also how about them drivers ( especially dutch ) who insist on driving with one wooly sock on the dash
I smoke in my truck, but i am led to believe that its the duty of the local council to prosecute and not the police…but i dont care anyway and it wont stop smokers from smoking.

Why would it need blue lights if it is limiter exempt, it wouldn’t need to be speeding to overtake trucks limited to 56 as it the speed limit is 60 and I agree with ROG if you aren’t doing anything wrong then why are you worrying about it. I find it more worrying that I could be driving along and someone watching a film while driving could smash into me or even worse smash into my mrs with the kids in the car.

How many times has this been said on here… YOU CANNOT GET PROSECUTED FOR EXCEEDING THE SPEED LIMITER SETTING … you can be prosecuted for exceeding the UK speed limits but you would have to be going some for a police officer to do you for that on a motorway where the limit is 60 mph !!

If your COMPANY has their own POLICY of giving drivers warnings for exceeding the limiter setting then that is betwen you and them - no-one else

And if they fit a camera in everyones livingroom, bedroom and toilet, its absolutely fine as long as whatever we do is legal. I wouldn’t want to live in that world would you?

Nobody would but that is not the point, drivers doing the things that they are trying to catch using this truck are risking lives possibly your life. They aren’t watching you get changed or nothing so I dont see how this is a privaty thing unless you are getting dressed while driving.

I hate the old bill think they are absolutly useless but if this stops some drivers watching films etc and risking other drivers lives then I think it is a good thing they are doing it and if anyone gets caught by this truck doing something you are not supposed to I hope you get what you deserve.

But surely this is just lazy policing, if they film everything anyone does, of course they will find something wrong, my problem is that the law says they must have reasonable cause for surveillance and that does not include random filming.

The whole thing goes beyond it being your workplace it is actually about your right to exist without someone looking over your shoulder.

I do my job to the best I can, I don’t cook or make a cup of tea or answer my phone off hands free when driving, but I still feel I have the right to privacy. And if we give up the right to privacy in our place of work then we give up our right to privacy full stop.

The problem is that we have a government who thinks that it is ok to assume that we have to prove that we are innocent and that it is fine to watch everything we do so they can prove our guilt.

You give up your human rights if you want to but I wont!

Why not ask them when they actually use the camera - I’ll bet it is only when they are suspicious of something … POLICE CENTRAL M’WAY GROUP 0121 626 1285 :bulb:

And I’ll bet it’s not.

Every where you go you get filmed mate, on motorways in town centres every where, what is the difference?

If you are not doing anything wrong like you say what is the problem and how am I giving up my human rights. Motorway police cars have video equipment in them but no one is moaning about that and I persume that they only use the video to record to use as evidence if you take it to court.

Can every one remember the video posted about that truck driver dancing around his cab think he was Romanian or something and everyone slated him for it and rightly so, and I have read so many posts complaining about drivers driving watching films etc and when the old bill do something to target it everyone starts moaning about it.

I am not whiter than white and trying to take the morale high ground just do not see what the problem is.

And in the few moments that you are not whiter than white you will just accept that you were unlucky to be caught, even though you were perfectly in control and the policeman that was lucky enough to film you at that moment will get brownie points for taking another dangerous trucker off the road.
I hope you enjoy the dole like the rest of the spongers that get away with it, at least you will know that the law was right in putting you out of a job.

Yeah I got away with it and sometimes I never, I escaped a ban by 2 days and that is the reason I have learnt my lesson and Im sorry mate but if you lose your licence then you have no one to blame but yourself for losing it. At the end of the day you need it so why risk it.

You still havent answered my question what human right am I giving up?

Your right to privacy.

And I always look over my shoulder before I do anything that could be taken as illegal by a camera that is looking at 1/2000th of a second of my days work, rather than looking at whether my truck is being driven dangerously or not.

I sort of agree with you, I have used my phone whilst driving and felt that I am in complete control but its against the law and I value my licence as I am sure you do just as much. I have learnt my lesson although I may not agree with it but there is nothing that you or me can do about it so we have to accept it. We could argue and argue about this but it still stands if you are doing nothing you have nothing to worry about.

Come on someone pointing a camera at you for 1/2000th of a second, is that really invading your privacy?

Have you checked out the “zoom in” facility on Google street view recently?

We could have done with one of them on the M5 northbound this morning. I was on my limiter & an artic in front of me (TiP rented trailer & Blue MAN unit) was drifting on & off the hard shoulder by several feet. I spotted an artic with a van behind it on the hard shoulder way up in front of us & tried flashing this driver to alert him but no luck. He drifted out just in time & whether it was the shock of what happened, or he didn’t even know what had happened, he slowed down. I went out to pass him & he leaned over to his left & began drifting again, he then sat round, opened his large bottle of pepsi & took a drink. What a ■■■■■!!!

This was one of those times when I could have done with not having a limiter. I may have been able to get ast this driver & woke him up to what was going on. This was a close shave & not something I wanted to see after driving past the carnage on the M4 yesterday morning.
