Has anyone been stopped by one yet? Just trying to establish how much they are on the roads, whether they are worthwhile… for a possible Commercial Motor investigation…
Feel free to comment on my blog
Cheers

If they catch one driver using a mobile phone or watching a video, it may save a life. Of course they are worthwhile.
Suedehead:
Whos paying for this !!
You and me the "good ole " taxpayer of course

Jeeez could you image the uproar of the REAL truckies if the did the odd load taking your work.
It’ll be as bad as recovery firms reporting people for helping pregnant ladies change a wheel in the rain
Who’s paying for the delays when a newspaper reading truckie causes a rear ender carnage, all the haulage firms stuck in the hold up ? With the lost revenues ?
“…to see if heavy goods drivers are using a mobile phone, laptop or even cooking their dinner…”
Ah good, i can still eat, smoke and drink then
I hope she’s not driving with someone sat on the bunk!
Is it just me or do more and more police drive mercs and bmws? Whats wrong with vauxhalls? They must be 20k per car cheaper? Unless merc & bmw are doing a really good deal?
~ actually someone slap me, whats wrong with vauxhalls? What am i saying!!!

i saw the police scania yesterday at the bottom of the m5 with a police rangerover about quarter of a mile behind.
Is it unmarked?
I passed a plain white unit northbound by Collumpton on M5 about 7pm last night with two crew but no uniforms or sign of aerials or camera etc just tidy shirt with hi viz on and doing dead on 50mph. Neither of them was on the phone or watching or video or smoking so probably the police ,or a Tesco assessment drive .
Am I the only one who is thinking that a solo unit catching you up quickly would make a driver suspicious and give them ample time to shut their laptops, pull their trousers up, put the kettle, stove and map away etc?
i know somebody who got pulled by said police truck the other day near junction 18 (bath) on the M4.it slowly passed them and had cameras pointing out of the passenger window.it then pulled in front and slowed down.the person who i know then overtook them and a minute or so later a police car arrived to pull him over.they were concerned about how the load was secured with rachet straps as they reckoned it looked dodgy.after a quick check said driver was on his way
If I remember correctly isn’t driving a tractor unit at 60mph just a little un-stable due to the lack of weight on the rear axle and darn right dangerous when wet?

Shhh!. Don,t be telling them that Mike. Let them find out for themselves

The original question maybe should have been is it legal to film into another persons private space?
If they have ‘reasonable suspicions’ then yes it is.
Reasonable suspicions would be decided by a judge or magistrate if anything went to court
so “reasonable suspicion” means driving a truck then? are we now quilty until prooved innocent? they can only see into the cab when they pull alonside, so they have speeded to catch you, if you are innocent then surely they have been speeding? i’ve never been a fan of peek-a-boo curtains but i’m being converted!
of course anyone watching a movie is an imbecile, but what else will now be considered dangerous driving?
using a mobile these days is comparable to paedophilia, i’ve been using mobiles since they came attached to a suitcase sized battery, and from when they first came out there were idiots who used them dangerously and people who had the mental capacity to decide whether it was safe or not. to anyone who’s been affected by an accident contributed to by use of a mobile i have every sympathy, but that driver who caused your pain would probably been watching a dvd if the phone hadn’t rang.
