Averagwe Speed Cameras

Does anyone if these cameras i.e. the ones on the A14 can differentiate between a car and a truck??

well they read numberplates and are linked to dvla so have a guess

Never been caught on a one on the A14 yet.

If you take the ACPO guide of 10% +2, that equates to 57mph.

And they’re AVERAGE speeds cameras, not AVERAGWE.

Which would tally with what I was told by an installer for the cameras on the M62 a couple of year or so ago.

they’re not top of the range, just average. this is england after all.

As I have said before, I got nicked at 57 on the A303 in Hampshire

that’s a Gatso, takes absolute speed not average

I take no chances these days, set the cruise at 52 from end to end.
Still surprised by trucks on the limiter, and some cars and white van men going through at 60 or more! Do they know something that we don’t know?

Why would the cameras need to differentiate between cars and trucks? They would have the same speed limit.

Unless of course you are one of those ■■■■ who decide they are TOO IMPORTANT to wait behind a car doing 45 and then use the massively narrow outside lane to squeeze past.

In reply to mucker 85.
If you had bothered to read my op correctly you would have seen that I specifically mentioned the A14 where the speed
limit between lorries and cars are different!!! Why woulld I have differentiated between cars and trucks if I was talking about
roadworks on the motorway where the speed limit is the same. You just couldn’t wait to get all self righteous.
Sorry about the average spelling, finger slipped.

Apply mud to number plates so they can’t be read by camera simples

In reply to Harry James. I’m sorry I’m not familiar with every stretch of roadworks in the country. If you had mentioned the fact that there are different speed limits for cars and trucks on that particular stretch of roadworks I would have known.

I will…do speed limits only apply when there are cameras :unamused:

I wasn’t being self righteous, I was merely asking if you are one of those that think of themselves as being SOO important that width restrictions don’t apply to them. As you were asking your question relating to speed as a posed to which lane the camera detected you in I have to ask… Why would you need to know if the cameras differentiate between cars? Were you speeding excessively?

I used to go end to end at 50 mph, but everyone seemed to know something that i didnt, so just kept up with them, so far never a problem, but i am always wary.
Which begs another question, what are those cameras, that face you, and have a red/pinkish lens, are those only for trucks. ?

I’m always tempted to follow the crowd but me being so skeptical something clicks in my mind that maybe these drivers have ‘connections’ at the central ticketing office & I don’t so I stick to 82… :frowning:

The following link is from the firm that installed the cameras on the M62.

gives you a better idea how the cameras work

Interesting that their blurb claims that a reduction of 53% in deaths and serious injuries across London.
All the other recent reports I have seen for speed cameras claim nowhere near this figure, indeed one recent report I read claimed that figures has increased near speed cameras.

They’re a Truvelo and are not solely for trucks.

Don’t know if this is correct but if you switch lanes it don’t calculate the speed ive herd, hence why they say don’t switch lanes. Most of them don’t seem to work anyway but I don’t risk speeding cameras it as it is not worth the points/fine.

A complete idiot question but am a little unsure about A roads do they calculate the speed limit differences between Cars/Lorries?
