From what Iâve always heard, the late 60s/70s go to motors in Australia were mainly Kenworths and Macks, tough, straightforward and able to cope with the heat and the long distances. A lot of old hands still swear by the early KW cabovers and the Mack R-series. Compared to then, trucks now are obviously miles ahead for comfort, safety and fuel economy, but some would say theyâve lost a bit of character. Depends what era you grew up in I suppose..
And White, International, Reo, Diamond T, Volvo, Scania, MAN, Mercedes. They were eclectic times with a lot of Pommie stuff still about and the Japanese trucks emerging.
Ginger Beer? It was only rum that I remember, the staple of George, my first mentor at Buntineâs. Or did I dream that? ![]()
I have never noticed it for sale anywhere, but looking on line it is available in the UK through some big supermarket sites. I will have to look harder on the shelves next time.
âBack in the dayâ ginger beer shandies could be served in pubs; ginger beer and draught bitter.
I donât mean the 90âs more like the 40âs and 50âs.

A dream I reckon, I canât imagine any truckie going to town on Bundy. ![]()

Yes Spardo, I was being facetious.
Careful⌠Mentioning âhard stuffâ and âginger beerâ in the UK can be a problem.
(Cockney rhyming slang)
