Australia then and now

Definitely not Mensa materiel and bit of a bogan (who am to judge? ), but he has some fair points.

Love the piece of ‘dunnage’ used to stop the rigid wagon rolling forward. The poster on the parallel thread about what to do about the space forward of his empty pallets needs a pipe like that!

I was almost tempted to put this in the Scania, a bit of help needed, thread.

Coincidentally his name is Rob and he talks the same common sense about satnavs.
I’ll lay odds it was a sub-continental driver.

I expected that to be another video of some know all driver who never made a mistake but loves to gloat over someone who as.I was totally wrong , looking at that road i would give it a miss with what i drive firstly because you would constantly be up and down the auto (FFS)box you’d use copious amounts of fuel and it would probably take longer than the long way round. I went on the A57 Snake pass last January loaded and with the auto box it was bleeding frustrating and that’s a short road compared with the one in the video and it was no quicker probably 20 mins longer with a few irate car drivers behind me and a few more gallons of diesel used than i needed to.We all make mistakes as as the Dalek said as he jumped off the dustbin. The bloke in the video spoke alot of sense

You just have to look at that route and all the squiggly-ness of it and go “No, that’s out”. Great trip in a 4wd or on a trailbike for certain, but nothing much bigger.

How a four cylinder Viva became a V8 Torana.

Yes, they are what you think they are. If only it was a Hippo carting them (Brisbane-Ipswich Road 1975)

Whether the V8 logo has been removed or lost, or never been, it is a TR 350 or TR 280. Interesting picture!

I wonder where they are now, if they’re not dead and what their attitudes would be.

Interesting that, and it was made around the time I was living and working there, but I wasn’t a 10 pound POM, I went under my own steam and had a good idea what to expect, and wasn’t disappointed. Proof of this was years later when, through circumstances I didn’t foresee, I was back in England, my new wife and I applied for the scheme. Sadly, not to be as she had 3 kids from a previous husband who had disappeared from view completely and the Aussies could not let the kids emigrate without their father’s agreement.

So I emigrated somewhere else instead, here. :joy:

Well in hindsight and if they were still alive and if they could get to northern France they could hop on a dinghy and come back home and live rent free in one of the many hotels we have on offer.Free health care free meals free phone and we would throw in a bit of spending money too.
On the other side of your question SDU i wonder how many did make a success of it . The woman complaining that the weather was much the same as it is here had either been drinking or banged her head and was suffering from some sort of dementia.

The weather is variable in Oz, it is a big country, I skedaddled very quickly from Melbourne one day after suddenly experiencing an Antarctic wind. Never saw snow though.

As to hostels, An Aussie mate and I while sharing a 2 bed room in Darwin chose to move into a hostel on the edge of town when 2 rooms became available, they were lovely with great big fans to keep the hot air on the move. :joy:
