Astran / Middle East Drivers

I was wondering how that “seller” thing works down in the middle-east. Are the trucks sold already before the trip or do they first drive them down there, tip the load and then start to look for a buyer? I have sold a couple of Land Cruisers in Mali and Tanzania and we just booked in to some hotel and buyers started to circle the vehicles.

I have a -96 Scania 144 and TIR-carnet and I need to change to newer truck…

Hullo Kieth, (J ? )
Good to see you are still at it mate. Keep on Trucking.
Cheers, Archie.

Are we all fired up to rebuild Libya chaps? It seems like Mr Gaddafi is coming to the end of his reign!

He should have listened more to my Cousin Neville :stuck_out_tongue:

In 1972 Neville Atkinson left a career as a night fighter pilot in the Royal Navy to take up a position as personal pilot to The President of Libya, Col Gadaffi. During the next ten years his role was to fly The President, Government Ministers and many world dignitaries around the Middle East and Africa. During the course of these flights his relaxed conversations and perceptive observation of his passengers gave him a rare insight into their personalities, and the politics and happenings of the time.

The turmoil of the Middle East meant almost constant uncertainty and danger. His Falcon 20 executive jet was fired on by anti-aircraft guns as he came into land in South Yemen; in Egypt the terrifying experience of surviving six SAM II missiles fired at the plane while conveying the Libyan Prime Minister to Egypt during the Arab-Israeli war. The crew was forced into taking Carlos The Jackal and his three fellow terrorists from Algiers to Mogadishu in Somalia after they had kidnapped the OPEC conference in Vienna - a thoroughly unnerving and obnoxious ordeal.

ok so if syria becomes a no go and you can not go south into N/Africa as posted before does that mean no trucks from Astans to the middle east? Or can you do Russia ect. I would have thought Iraq might be calming down .

There used to be a ferry to Tripoli in the Lebanon, they convoyed us into a compound near the dock, surounded by a big high bund to stop any stray bullets they said  It sailed to Triest and called at Cyprus bit of a old tub ,i am trying to find some photos i have of it. I am sure we had about 1 hours drive in Syria though, but it missed Damascus out and still had to go through Derra :frowning: Dodgy.
Don,t know if its still on the go as it was 26 years ago.Klunk

If there is a tunnel you can bet Gaddafi’s using it to escape from Libya, you said it was from ‘‘Tripoli’’

Apparently there are lots of tunnels under Tripoli, who knows where they lead

I think so Alison. It surprised me there has been no comment until I saw yours. I am quite sad about the news.

I have reposted this from the PDF in case it was missed.
