Dunno about the mirror DJ, but the warning sticker was PAHAENG (with the A and E joined in the Danish style) and it meant that the vehicle was towing a trailer. You can/could buy the stickers at truckstops in and around Denmark, I did but wasn’t quite sad enough to fit it

That’s the one i was thinking of Andy. Looking at the plate that is mounted to the bracket on the bumper, the shape reminded me of the sign for some strange reason, (I think its an age thing) thats my excuse. Regards Jamie.
A Scot Snow’d in and Lost In the Valley’s JFLGOTP.
It took me a whole 20 minutes and many aborted attempts to copy this pic, at last I have succeeded in something new for the day!!! Hope this will help in trying to find an answer, cheers Mitch.

Hi all; Very interesting reading all the “interpretations” of the “strange looking plate” on the bumper. Without insulting anyone’s intelligence, there’s no way it was a mirror! Way too low down. The danish spec “deluxe” cabs had a mirror mounted on the door, not on the bumper.
JJ72 - you are correct. It was the danish “caution” plate. Quite why it was there, I cannot find out as I do not know who exactly was driving the truck at the time, although it may have been JOHN HOLLAND.
If you look closely, you can also see a Mack “bulldog” mascot fixed adjacent to the central wiper. This is surely indeed “70’s bling”!
The photo was taken by Bob Paul (R.I.P) immediatley after the truck had been resprayed from the traditional red and yellow to the more distinctive “cream and ■■■■” livery!
Bob’s son Dominic can be seen in the drivers seat and his wife Caroline standing to the right.
Yes thats Bernie, also in the middle is Ray Smith who worked in the office,he came from UCC union cartage company,he started the first loads to refrige work to kuwait and jedda about 1969,last time I saw Bernie was at my shop in Peterbrough,he told me that he took his young son to mosul, some men tried to get hold of his son,he tried to defend him and was slashed from head to foot,he said it took 2 days to stich him up with no anasetic,he looked in a right state and said he had stopped driving.Ray Smith told me that he died with cancer in hospital.
Failed again, as soon as I master the art I have got quite a few intersting pics that should raise a bit of interest Regards Fred H
Good pic, if you click on it it opens up massive!!!
I presume you are refuelling from your belly tank but it looks a very small guage / thin pipe to be re-fuelling with!!..must have taken ages!!
Also, I know a lot of trailers from back then had all sorts of exotic destinations written on them but did you ever get over to India!!
Hell of a drive!
Look forward to seing some more pics.
No , never got to India - as they say it has got OXO on the buses but they don’t sell it- this was one of my first trips and I was learning the trade, can’t say that I realised the pipe being small but it did the job - I was pulling for Welham Int: out of Fleetwood on that occasion on route to Teheran - cannot recall where I was refueling on that ooccasion - probaly Hammersmiff Broadway , I look forward to getting some more pics posted asap - Regards all, Fred H

Glad we got that sorted - clear as mud now!!! I still maintain that it’s a mirror and perhaps the driver was trying out his very latest design of x-ray specs lol.
I WOULD LIKE TO RAISE A COMMENT AND I SINCERELY DO NOT WISH TO OFFEND ANYONE BUT THE INFORMATION OFFERED REGARDING THE WARNING PLATE ON DANISH VEHS: INDICATING THAT IT IS PULLING A TRAILER IS ABSOLUTELY CORRECT, SO I WONDER WHY THIS POSITIVE INFO DOES NOT SEEM TO HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED AS THIS SUBJECT IS GOING A BIT TOO FAR AND TO SAY THE LEAST GETTING VERY BORING, PLEASE OR OFFEND - REGARDS TO ALL FRED.H
WHAT’S WITH THE SHOUTING?!?!?!?!?!?!
I’m assuming that the last comment was intended for me…many apologies for raising the few remaining hairs of the soft centred people out there!!! I hadn’t read it the explanation as being ‘definitive’ and, therefore, was merely requesting a little more info regarding the said item and perhaps it’s means of finding it’s way onto this particular question.
Perhaps, the topic is exhausted and i’ll retire to a quiet room in order to allow my ears to recover from the shouting of the previos thread…Peace on earth and goodwill to all men (even the fiery ones!!!)

Absolutely flattered that you related me to Fisher, yeah rite - however he held his job I will never know, I would avoid him in favour of the ministry man, with me he was about as welcome as a turd in a swimming pool, I know that he retired to Downham Market in Lincs: and he was very unhealthy (What a surprise !) the way he used to drink
and he was another one who wanted to fight the world when he had a drink - Could you in future remind me some good old mates that I used to run with - Regards Fred

ok how about micky gordon? brian wernt that bad,ex navy boy. i agree he loved a fight, but if you gave it to him back he left you alone,as i did one night in the parking by the greeks in kelsterbac frankfurt. fred did you get hold of eddie mulk?
Re: Eddie, I spoke with Ed about 3 months ago, he phoned me completely out of the blue and I was completely surprised but very pleased to hear from him, he was going to contact Mick Bryant - Bobbie Power - Roy Hopkins to arrange a ‘meet’ so I will have to give him a nudge - all we would have to do is to find MILK-BAR somewhere suitable for
everyone. Don’t know if you knew Len Humphries but he phone me about a month ago he’s 83 now and living in Cornwall, there’s a man to sit and talk to about his experiences down the Gulf, smashing bloke, he could kid a duck off of a pond with a bucket of water, he lived for the day and never worried about tomorrow you never got bored with Len’s stories although you had been there got the ‘T’ shirt it was always good to hear his version, it’s people like this that we all miss now we are all ‘Self unemployed’ although you may still be at it. I also got a call last night from Kenny Ward one of old muckers, he calls me a couple of times a year, So if there is anyone out there who borrowed money off of me get in touch asap - Seasons greetings to everyone out there and wishing you all a great 2011 - Regards Fred
