my view exactly fred … you carry on …
I put 2 bids on eBay doing the same thing.Doh!
I like the ‘T’ shirts I will have to look into it, there are some good ones about - my wife had one that read ‘I AM A VIRGIN’ and on the back it read ‘THIS IS A VERY OLD T SHIRT’ - any improvement on that ? I know that this is not very M/E 'ish but it keeps the forum clicking, although it has livened up a bit over the weekend - Anyone out there taken the wife with them to M/E or even somebody else’s? - The latter should quieten the responses down. I wonder how many of you have closed your PC’s down ? just incase you are being overlooked - Oh well perhaps Iv’e blown it now and will get expelled eh? - Regards Fred H

I first set eyes on my first wife in the truck stop in Ankara. She was a Swedish lass and was stuck out there in Turkey having had a falling out with her travelling companion. Sir Galahad came to the rescue…well, not exactly
Anyway, she subsequently came with me on several trips to the middle east. Taking a young female out there was not always the easiest thing to do but I was young and a bit crazy in those days. Now I’m old and a bit stupid instead.
By the way, we married after I had finished doing middle east trips.
Hi Ron - I took my wife on a quicky to Instantbull and she quite enjoyed it especially the bazaar, cost me a few bob ! the one thing that she regreted was having a photo done with that little turk with the bear who on this occasion was outside the Londra, She did not realise the cruelty those animals go through until the point was raised in latter years by a world animal welfare group and she has never forgoten it and always feels ashamed, So it is fair to say that it was mood of the moment - Some year or so later I took her to Baghdad (Not a good idea) she attracted a lot of attention at Zacho and it was fortunate that there was a couple of White Trucks drivers there to keep an eye on her while I done my papers - and the same situation at the holding area at Abu Greib, so a lesson learnt - if I ever master this fangled photo scanning etc: I have still got the photo - As previously mentioned ‘I will master getting my pic’s onto here eventualy’ Regards Fred H
I remember reading something in the Cola Cowboys book years ago about how taking wives and / or girlfriends to the M/E was abit of a no no and that Turkey was the official dropping off point!!
As stated by freshir, taking them any further East could well have resulted in a few problems. Just wondered if any of you old hands had any further experiences with that sort of thing??
Hallo Männer,
Habt Ihr keine Fotos von Türkischen Speditionen aus dem 70s, 80s,
Ich mache eine Liste von alten Türkischen Transport Firmen.
Würde mich sehr freuen wenn Ihr mir helfen könnt,
Vielen Dank im Vorraus.

Hi - My problem was not big time - but these rag heads get ■■■■■■■ mags: etc: as buckshees from the drivers and they get the impression that our girls from western europe are there for the taking and as you know they stand looking and smiling as if they are gods gift with their teeth looking like an old NAAFI piano one brown one missing one black and on one occasion waving a wad of money, but it didn’t get out of hand but you have to be careful and make a bit of a joke about it b’cos the odds are really against us as you know they are of a different culture and they are all as queer as two bob alarm clocks but I think it did up the wifes ego a bit, she wanted to know how much she was valued at and how much he offered - yeah - Regards all - Fred H
Fred
The expresion “Rag Head” is no longer an acceptable term. The Arabs would like us Westerners to understand that the cloth they use on their heads is not a Rag but a small Sheet. Therefore if we must use a a nick name they should be called “Sheet Heads”
Unlike Europe, Homosexuality is forbidden in the Gulf, albeit there is an argument going on beteen Kuwait and Oman as to which is the Gay Capital of the Middle East…
All the best RDF
The Yanks used to call 'em Sand …ers; using the ‘n’ word.

A bit of a coincedence this but I have just been watching a great t.v. programme called Francesco’s Mediterranean Adventure. I know that the Turks have always enjoyed the sport of wrestling, well after all it is a mans game. (Unless you prefer watching it being played by girls in mud or jelly )
Anyway, Francesco visits Edirne to watch the Turkish Wrestling Finals where men come from all over Turkey to watch and take part in this annual event. The rules are that the players, who wear leather trousers must be bare from the waist up and each player must cover himself with Olive Oil (or get somebody to do it for him.)
One of the rules is that you are allowed to stick your hand down your opponents trousers so that you can get a better grip of him .
They weren’t all shirt lifters but I can remember seeing two Iraqi soldiers in uniform holding hands with their A.K.47 rifles slung over their shoulders sitting on the back of a tank transporter during the Iran / Iraq war .

I’ve previously related a story about me and my girlfriend at the Iraqi border on the “Simon International” thread which is currently back on page 8 and then to page 5 on that thread.
The mans name was Trevor Long or better known as “Wing commander Long”.
Bryan (German jock)
VOLVO F89 ALP61S–Ex PIE International, was then operated by an owner driver from Preston called Tony Brownlee on Italy work and then later White Trux where it was driven by Tony Buckle(i am in contact with his son Julian). Does anyone have any pics or info/history regarding this truck?I am in the process of restoring it,many thanks Dave.
Terrrific pics, I would like to mention that I knew ‘Jimmy Buckle’ and usualy John’s become Jimmy’s - Was wondering if it is the same person he was subbing for Grangewood’s and eventually ended up buying a new FIAT, I have a photo of JIM with all of Grangewood’s Jockeys and I am in the process of learning how to get them onto this forum and I hope to succeed within the next few days, It would be interesting if this is the same man, I remember him as always being well presented and very quiet and about 6ft 6 - unfortunately I cannot offer any info about the Volvo but I wish you every success with your restoration, Keep us informed - Regards Frd H
Further to my previous post and your enquiery re: White Trux and having had a think about it I will ‘TRY’ to contact one of my old M/E mates who was on for WT and see if I can come up with some info (Just a chance) I also referred to Jimmy Buckle as being 6ft 6 - I meant 5ft 6- Regards FRED .H
Sorry Fred got the name wrong it was Tony Buckle not John as i previously stated.
