The “famous” image that’s been seen many times. Gordon in red speedos Bobby 2nd from left. Bun far right. Gordon is pretty sure the others were Australian backpackers/travellers.

They were passengers on the famous ■■■■ Buses . It was a firm that ran tours with old double deckers from London to Nepal for Ozzy backpackers . They packed up when Holland installed height sensors in the tunnels & on the bridges ; they were too high.
Ahyone remember the name?

Yes,Harry.I’m afraid I do-they were called Top Deck Travel.Cream and brown livery as I remember.Mostly Bristols(very suitable).Kept seeing a few in Paris, round the tourist places, and asking the drivers if it was a nostalgia tour, only to be told that they were on their way to exotic places such as you mention.I was a bit sceptical at first, but yes they did the biz alright.Ta for the info about Holland, didn’t know that

That’s a great Top Deck you tube clip Harry  , Skroo Turner is now an extremely wealthy man, I wonder if he has lots of memories of the Londra Camp in the 70’s/80’s  .

Does anybody remember another crowd called The Magic Bus ? I am not sure if they went from the U.K. to India but they certainly went to Greece as I remember seeing one of their coaches dissappear in a cloud of smoke between Nis and Skopia one winter.

The Magic Bus used to do Athens to London in a 48hr shift overland, pretty gruelling trip by all accounts an ex of mine went home 1 year on it & vowed never to do it again.

Albert is the name. Reg is; MRO 343H. Love the bike and spare wheel on back! Ring any bells with anyone?

Heres one in Paris

You always knew when one was arrivin at the Londra when we all had a shower

you bunch of barstools

for my sins i have to confess to being a ex employee of top deck as a mechanic

99% of the buses where bristol lodekas or flf

if fitted with a bristol avw engine or semi auto transmission that would be ripped out and a percy thrower put in.

the rare photo of the 2 bristol vr’s brought back memories the first and last buses with semi auto transmission bought and used and what a disaster

after teaching the hirer how to drive a semi auto e;g pause then select after leaving the yard they would realise theat “slamming” was easier e;g straight through change this eventually snaps the half shafts and results in a tow in.

had 3 very happy years in the workshops and driving and saw many places on and off the beaten track.

Hi Guys
There were also some other overland tours, one company was called Exodus Overland. They used to run TK Bedfords. I remember one trip I was parked at the Londra and this bird was driving one of the TK’s. She needed to have her radiator fixed so I offered to help
Any way she declined the offer of assistance, telling me that she could manage. I did give her some advice on how to remove the Rad, by loosening the cab mounts and jacking up the back of the cab so that the radiator came out easier. With that I went to the restaurant for some Efes and a bite to eat. Later on I went back to check how she was getting on.
She had removed the rad and was getting it repaired. So later on after the job was complete, I booked a room in the hotel and serviced her “radiator” !!!
Happy days eh !!
Never saw her again…
GS

I hope that radiator wasn’t leaking while you had your head underneath it Gavin  .

Can Gordon or Ashley give us a clue where the photo of Albert the bus was taken ?, as a stab in the dark I would say south of Zagreb in Yugoslavia  .
