Hi Badger, this was the bridge at Russe ( The Friendship Bridge ) as I remember it coming from the Rumo side  .

And if that photo of yours is the dam between Sibiu and Rimnicu Vilcia then this is the old road that is now on the bottom of it.

i blew an airbag on john willies MAN on that road, it was rough with potholes big enough to get stuck in

I doubt the bridge at PYCE was as empty as that very often, not even a soldier bumming ■■■■ and ■■■■!

HELLO ALL
THIS IS MY FIRST POST ON THIS AMAZING THREAD,GOING THROUGH MY SCRAPBOOK I CAME ACROSS THIS PICTURE OF A F89 GOING UP A MOUNTAIN PASS IN SAUDI ARABIA(does anyone have any more info on what mountain it may be?)

REGRDS R-JACKO

Hi R-Jacko and welcome to the thread

In the hey day of the F89 there were not many mountain passes in Saudi with Ashphalt, I would therefore assume it must be Tayeef in the Western Province. I have a photo of a Scania 110 taken in 78 on it’s way down the pass but cannot post it as the photo is in Africa and I am not there at the moment.

All the best.

Welcome to this thread, good one isnt it!! :stuck_out_tongue:

Now the question that has to be asked…Is that an 89 or could it be…(shock, horror!! ) an 88!!! :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Not that I would know the difference but I love the arguments that that question always starts!!!

Great pic, got anymore in the scrapbook??

Let the debate begin!!..

Hi all: This is DEFINATELY an F89. The pic is taken from a Saudi Aramco magazine. I have the issue somewhere and I’ll endeavour to search for it over the coming weekend.
The company is featured and the trucks are all 6x4’s. Green chassis and lower cabs with white upper cabs and a green sticker on the door…just can’t recall the co name at the mo. The feature shows more trucks running “double bottom” across Saudi from base in Jeddah. You are correct RSFox, its in the Western Province.

Does the description of the trucks ring any bells with anyone?

I think the other photo that R-Jacko posted is from a Volvo brochure.

Hello Truckerash
I also came across this one again no info is the Scania on the right a Astran motor??

Regards Jacko

Hullo,
No it,s Italian Scania.
Cheers, Archie.

r.jacko.forgive me if this is only indirectly related to this thread but my curiosity got the better of me.in your postings you have a piccie of an old bakers of so’ton motor.did you or your dad work for them.i ask because in 1974 i bought an old bakers motor for £1000 and went on contract to astran with it driving to the m.e.if you look on the thread ‘mikes lorry pics’ you can see it.i done three trips to kuwait with it :open_mouth: before upgrading to a volvo.it goes to show that they just kept on going[not very quickly 46mph] but nevertheless we got there  take care.mike

G’day fellas,
I found some info about the white F89 and the company that ran it. They had 80 F89’s,yep 80,I reckon there would still be some kicking about in Saudi today. The article was in Heritage Commercials,it was a three part story from May/June/July.

This last pic is from a kids book that I’ve had for years and I had always wondered who owned them and where had they been opperated.

Nice one Jamie  That’ll save me a lot of time looking for the Saudi mag. Although Heritage ran this feature, it was originally done way back in the 70’s. I’ll still look the old mag out. Be good to compare the two. Ash.

NZ JAMIE:

Hang on a minute…is it my imagination, or has the driver hit the brakes a bit sharpish?? Those packing cases look they taken a tumble ! :open_mouth:

From my experience with the F88 & F89s Brakes you could not get the load to move forward
under hard braking
