WELL MATEY,YOU CAN STILL RUN DOWN THERE IF YOU WANT,JUST DEPENDS ON WEATHER YOU HAVE THE NERVE TO TAKE A LOAD ON AND DELIVER IT TO ITS DESTINATION…TWO MAJOR QUESTIONS YOU HAVE TO ASK YOURSELF…MYSELF I DONT THINK THERE IS MUCH TO WORRY ABOUT GOING BY WHAT I HAVE LEARNED FROM OTHER HAS BEENS. NO OFFENCE BUT I THINK PAMPLONA TAKES SOME BEATING AND LIKE THE FRANS MAAS DRIVER TOLD ME,LOADED GOIN ACROSS SNAKE PASS ALSO IS A TEST OF NERVES…BUT EACH TO THERE OWN EH…CANT SEE M/E BEING ANYTHING SPECIAL…NO OFFENCE
Don’t know what planet you have come from Pamplona , Do you know where that is ? Sure theres a few hills before it and after it but you cant compare this and snake pass to anything we have encountered en route to the middle east or beyond. Tarsus Tahir Bolu Khyber pass etc these mountain roads were absolute killers and the wrecks were below to prove this and provided a constant reminder to the sane driver to be cautious. This is without the constant threat from native drivers who think they will live forever and think nothing of overtaking on blind bends etc etc
Snake pass could be a pig in a winter I agree, but you cannot draw any comparison other than that. And I also think you are being disrespectful to all of us on here as we all knew several people and good friends who never made it back and sadly were a statistic of a very tough job. R.I.P.
We all wonder what it would be like now, but without driving the route again I am sure of One thing it would be a lot easier now

Wether i have the nerve mr sausage? Just because i said ive never been to turkey in a truck does that make me a dreamer then? Maybe you do a bit research before you judge anyone on here or just take your wind up somewhere else.
BEING CALLED A PRICK FOR HAVING AN OPINION,NOW THATS NOT SOLDIERS IS IT…SO CHURCHYBELIEVER HAVE YOU VENTURED DOWN THE M/E OR ARE YOU ANOTHER DREAMER,AN I DONT MEAN TURKEY I MEAN THE MIDDLE EAST/PERSIA ETC…GOING BY THE SMALL REPLY I TAKE IT YOU HAVE.
if you dont like whats said on here then cart off, i for one love the stories & info about the M/E & its good for the drivers as did the run to get in contact with each other again & relive the memories.
This may be a ploy to get the page back into the rankings near the top or it could be just a troll attack, either way, please do not let this thread degenerate into another stupid and ultimately locked thread.
If anyone thinks it was easy and anyone could do it, then posting a diary and a few photos would amuse us old has beens or even haven’t beens.
This thread, Marcs photo thread and Ashleys thread have had thousands of hits, someone is interested in them, if you are not, just ignore them
Mr sausage.hi.forgive me but i find it rather sad that you should be so critical of the M.E.forum when as far as i can tell you have no personal experience upon which to base your criticism.as a truck driver[which i assume you are]should you not be grateful to the older generation for improving your own lot.i personally have the greatest respect for the old guys who tramped up and down to scotland in a guy warrior or went to italy in a big j.due to their efforts i was able to drive volvo f88 to afghanistan and not an aec.you should remember that in the early 70s for a lot of us,to go to the M.E. was to fulfill a dream of being able to travel to exotic countries and experience new customs and cultures which, before, were only possible to the well off.also we earned a bit more and contributed to the development of many countries who, because of the influx of traffic were able to improve their own economies faster than would have otherwise been possible due to the foreign currency flooding in.i agree with you that there are many areas and roads in europe which are as bad as theM.E. but the trip to M.E. was about the whole trip not just one little mountain like tahir or a small section of road like the autoput from beograd to nis.are you so critical about the old drivers that drove to spain and portugal in the 60s and 70s.due to their efforts you now have motorways where before you only had farm tracks.who knows.maybe in 20 years time people in your local pub will wish that you would shut up about how macho you were to drive all the way to pamplona alone in your ‘primitive’ FH16 volvo.and how the guys now in their super jet trucks have it so easy.in 1971 trucks were taking almost 2weeks to go to italy, now you do 1 trip a week in more comfort.it’s called progress.we should be gratefull to those who went before for helping us to’progress and develop.i bet you would rather drive your bmw and turn up the heating with a switch and read this on internet than ride a bike, bring in buckets of coal, and listen to a crystal set.it’s all made possible by trucks.mike

I will change the subject ,anyone who knows me might remember my Brother Pete ,he did a couple of trips with me to Baghdad for Astrans and a few for Intersped to Greece ,Pete was a Drummer in a very popular Band called the Dominos, the band folded in the late 80s but Pete carried on playing as a session drummer,
I have just heard that he has hooked up with Alan Silson the lead gutarist and original starter of Smokie (living next door to Alice )all the older guys must remember this band 14 uk no one hits ,
The best part is that I might be back on the road with a new Truck on tour with the band ,so keep your elbow’s in will put Pics up when I get them
