Rescued from page 2 again!!! Has the trucknet / middle east bubble finally burst chaps■■?
Come on lads, you have 40 odd years of Middle East experience to post up here…plus pictures!!
Would be a shame to see this thread sink as it has been very entertaining.
Totally agree, bullit.Never did M/E myself, but thoroughly enjoy reading about the experiences of those who did.Anyway, anybody remember a Stoke man ,Mick Taylor, told me he did M/E for Baymex and Chapman & Ball ? And a NI man called Ted West. Also,Lowe’s transport’s manager(really can’t remember his name ) said he’d done a few out there for Lowe’s,I think.Would be brilliant if someone could get Cooperman on here.
Hi guys
Lets keep Cooperman away we will all go insain with his ramblings
Roger
Just a quick one, can someone shed some light on the history of yellow F12 (Y reg) in astran colours apart from it not having the red A on the grille. i’m guessing it was an o/d due to the lack of ‘A’ and also because it had ‘sandtrans’ written on it. a nice looking unit with a bullbar and chrome stacks. i can’t for the life of me remember where i saw it on the net but i’ve never seen it or heard it mentioned before. any ideas? cheers.

Hi what2do: Sandtrans was indeed a subby for Astran for a while. The F12 in question originally belonged to OHS/United from Dagenham, hence the spoked wheels due to it being Turkish spec. Not sure of the guy’s name who owned Sandtrans, but someone on here will know him. Normal Sandtrans colours were a striking green, unit and trailer painted the same, with tilt cover written with Schenkers. There was the F12, a big cabbed Merc 1748 and a lovely looking Volvo F16 Globetrotter. If you check out euro-wheels.com im sure you’ll find pics of the trucks on there.
Terry Brake owned Sandtrans.
Leo Smith got him into it.
Barbara ran the office and trucks.

Jim Baigent and Dougie somebody drove for them.
Do I win a book for that info?
just spent an age trawling thru euro-wheels but can’t seem to find any images of the sandtrans units that you mention ash, any clues as to where they maybe lurking? cheers.

Jem Cockerel (Whitby Lad) drove a Sandtrans motor for a while, or at least a green one which once belonged to them.

Perhaps you would be better reading the title of the forum before you make your comments it does give you a clue as it starts with OLD TIME LORRY 'S,COMPANY’S AND DRIVERS as it seems as though your comments have been placed on the wrong forum as this forum is about the past 50 years of the history of LORRY DRIVING.

Nice one,Archie
. Give 'em no attention though, and they’ll go away.Think he may have lived in the same town as the Saab factory.

I suppose it goes on and on because plenty people like myself who never got the chance to go through turkey in a truck wish that they could have gone where others on here have posted about. Whats wrong with sharing memories
