Hi Wheelnut
One of has the name of the Volvo wrong but I can not remember the name John gave the little DAF he had after the Volvo ■■?
I am sure we will be corrected or start a good debate
Regards
Ian
I remember him latterly with a driver on one and him driving another. The drawbar was Violet and I thought the Artic was Victoria. I dont remember what names he gave the 2500 DAF or the ERF

There you go wheel nut I’ve posted this before on here I think, its in Yugo years ago he was loaded with sweets from Istanbul dunno who the driver is/was he ran up with Me & Alex Ross for a day or 2 until he got fed up with our antics!

I met his driver a few times, he always had a girl with him. I notice the reversed passenger seat in typical Williams style

Hi All & sinbin, Roger I have sent you a pm, but as all my pm’s seem to disapear I’ll post on here as well. I would be grateful if you would add my name to the list at Pats funeral, if it’s not too late. What a nice guy, there can’t be many of the good ones left!
I also see mentioned Frank Brandon, is this FBI Frank Brandon? I always new FBI as Frankie Brannon but I could well be wrong. Dropped me in it didn’t he Sheeplady? If so another one of lifes characters.

Hi again Road Tax. Just before Xmas in either 79 or 80 I arrived back in the UK empty from M/E and was offered a run to Warsaw. If I went straight out I could do it before Xmas, so I went up to somewhere near Norwich to load steel. I arrived back at Harwich (the Navy yard) to ship out but they had had bad weather so instead of letting us park in the dock as usual we had to park in the road so that they could get the damaged stuff off of the ferry. The number of trucks parked in the road attracted all the usual ‘maggotts’ and I got done for no road tax. It had expired a long time before. I got my wife to send off the tax but got the dates wrong. I decided to argue and went to court, the prosecutor from the tax office was a nice bloke and we got talking about having to tax vehicles when we were abroad, for sometimes, months at a time (doing internals)He said he did not understand why we did not use the ‘7 day’s tax’ for vehicles that weighed over 11 tons empty. I said that as far as I knew no-one had heard of it, he explained that it was for heavy haulage trucks that were only used occasionally, you could tax for 7 days @ 1 seventh of the annual rate plus 10%. you could tax for 2 lots of 7 days then you had to have a break. I and quite a few people that I told used this system until the tax system changed. Meanwhile I produced all my old passports to the biddies in court to prove that I had been out of the country and got away with a few hundred quid fine and 1 months back tax.Phew!!!
I believe Gerry Hill who was mentioned a few pages back (another nice bloke RIP ) was the first man to go to jail for non-payment of road tax while doing M/W

An interesting post. I never heard of that one, but it does make sense when you think about some of the heavy haulage tackle parked up waiting for the phone to ring. Does it still exist for things like cranes who spend months working on a refinery project or harbour development.

Hello… when I asked if anyone could find out if this was true about Frank - I hope you didnt take it personally. It’s just that a couple of years ago I was told the same thing about Java John by a friend - but I rang John and he answered the phone! Just sometimes things get muddled down the line and I’m hoping this is the case with Frank too… but where to look?
