Hi Guys
What a send off we gave Pat Seals the Crematorium was so full most of us had to stand in the lobby ,so many drivers turned out and other friends of Pat ,I think prob 250 people ,about 50 drivers who drove the long roads to Greece,Turkey, and the ME, spoke of fond memories of Pat, and drank excess amounts of beer,I am so glad I made the journey ,and met up with old Friends to many to mention ,will post my pics and a 3 minute video, thanks guys
Roger Haywood
A good send off.RIP Pat.
All the guys I met on the m/e were young men!

Thanks for taking those photos Dave. Looked like Pat had a great sendoff which is what he rightly deserved. What a bunch of old codgers
Still, I suppose that’s what we are now. There must have been some diesel flowing over those tables. Just think how many miles all those guys would have done collectively over the years and what they don’t know about trucking ain’t worth knowing
We’ve changed so much over the years (I know I have) that I didn’t really recognise anybody in the photos…except Bob Hedley. Any chance of putting some names to some of the faces??
Rgds Ron
Hi Ron, I have posted these photo’s to a Photobucket account, this will make it easier for people to name the one’s I cannot identify, feel free to add names & comments.

Good to see a few faces I recognise… if anyone has John O’Leary’s phone number or email address, can you please pm me… thanks, Alison
Nice to see Pete Andrews again, albeit only a photograph. Pete and I had little competitions on who could do Istanbul for least money, he was most upset when this young upstart beat his record more than once
NICE TO SEE SO MANY [OLD] FACES, iTS A SHAME SOMEONE AS TO DIE TO GET TOGETHER, iM’E SORRY I MISSED THE SEND OFF bUT i DID PASS MY ANNUAL MEDICAL FRIDAY AFTERNOON, SO I CAN TERRORISE THESE YOUNG WANNABEES FOR ANOTHER 12 MONTHS. RIP PAT, WHEREVER YOU ARE DONT TAKE NO S**T.

When I was going to school in Lutterworth in Leicestershire in the late 70’s I used to see an Astrans artic parked on a driveway in front of a house on the left hand side just before you entered Lutterworth coming from the Leicester direction on the old A426.I have had a strange fascination with astrans since those days, as when I started driving trucks for H.W.Coates of Cosby and an old timer lent me the book Cola cowboys and I was unable to put it down until I had read it cover to cover(in about 15 hours).later on some 20 years, I was given a rather dog eared copy that was hard to read and keep together but still just as fascinating to read again,I have kept this one for prosperity and put it together with an old copy of Headlight magazine that featured a driver that they accompanied on his last overland trip.
I may only be waffeling as my beloved calls it but, somebody may be able to tie things together and find it usefull.

Hi all: It was Dave Reynolds and he had a Mercedes 1748.
BLUEKNIGHT and GUNNERHESKEY: If you are not aware, I’m writing a book about Astran which happens to include photos of Dave Reynold’s trucks. If you are interested in a copy which will be out in May, please drop me an email to my main e mail address: ashleycoghill@aol.com

There are some great photos there Dave, thanks for posting them. I only remember talking to Pat twice so I can’t say that I knew him well. Once was at The National in Belgrade while he was waiting for a visa for somewhere in the Middle East and another time was at the Hungarian border. Both times I seem to remember that he was wearing a brown leather waistcoat or was it a leather jerkin, does anybody else remember it ?.
I must admit that if I was standing next to Gerry McGraph, Alfie Jones or Ronnie Royle at a bus stop then I wouldn’t of recognised any of them, unless Alfie started singing The Band Played Waltzing Matilda like he did in Chris’s restaurant in Polikastro one night. It’s strange but I always think of that night every time that I hear that song on A.N.Z.A.C. Day.
Some things never change though, Alfie and Ronnie sat in front of a table and the empty glasses are starting to mount up . ( I shall see you on April 23rd Ronnie so long as you don’t eat all the pies ).
Well done all you old drivers for making sure that Pat had a good send off.
Pat probably looked down on you all and smiled and thought that the only important person who didn’t turn up was the Phillipino tanker driver from Falluja.
R.I.P. Pat.
I’m sure that’s Bob Hedley sat at the table…or am I mistaken?
Ron
