Hi Guys, I haven’t been on here since joining around a year ago I think… I had almost forgotten about the place but my Grandad (Dave Anderson) is very ill and I was hoping to find some pictures for him to see before he eventually leaves us. (I know is sounds morbid but its the truth, I would love to show him some old pictures to bring back memories and make him smile.) If anyone remembers him or has pictures that they know have him in them then I’d love to hear from you. Is there anyway of showing up just the images that have been posted in a thread? 37 pages will take some going through so any help would be appreciated, I will however read every single page so that I don’t miss anything.

Next time I visit my Grandparents I will ask him for his pictures of his M/E driving days and ask his permission to post them here for you all to see. I know he has a few but in the meantime I’d love to see any that he doesn’t have…

Kind regards,

Jimmy.

O.K. Ian, Holland, near the Heerlan border and the Falcongate driver is getting some Grolsch PLUS  some Samson Shag ( or a blow up doll ) .
I.I.R.C. Danekamp was a quite little border in the north of Holland next to West Germany and it was handy if you were coming from Poland on your way to Europort. On a couple of occasions the West Germans didn’t ask to see or stamp the German permit and I think that the road went through a place called Soesterburg or something like that  .

Regards Steve.

GS….When you say Mike, may I assume you mean Michael John Walker, if so, then I am amazed you were driving slow enough to even notice there was a hairpin. ha ha :open_mouth:

The only way that I knew about the hairpin was on the way down when I was going slow enough to see it. !!
"Knock Knock, come on were leaving…! and off we went for another 22hrs driving. We will stop here and have a couple of hrs sleep…Knock knock, come on were leaving…! Brrmmm of we go again. etc etc etc. until Abu Samra.
I never ran with you but im sure it was similar to running with Mike Walker.
GS

Mmmm, I guess when the Red Coats and Dogs are out it is wise to keep on the move…

Hello All.

Peter, I was on that job for a while, most of the pipes loaded out from Halesowen. West Midlands to Ankara, Turkey.
When Whittle closed the job was taken over by Dornack who were based in Coppull.

This is a photo of some of us taken in Ankara Customs.

You may remember an old beat up M.A.N. that used to park in Ditchfield’s yard, well that was me.

Dave.

Well hello Dave long time no see.

When I was at Ditchfeilds you did not have an old beet up Man well that was you. You had that thing you called a good truck lol an old beeten Iveco I hated them things but you said it was the best thing that the chassis stud up to the beeting you give them lol.

So what you up to now and what happen to that thing you said was a good truck?

Regards

Peter

Hi All

Mushroomman right Country but I think another clue may be in order

The Truck stop had a large brick chimney with Texaco on it, also could be seen from the Border

Regards
Ian

Peter, memory must be playing tricks on me, the Man, was before the Iveco, which I bought NEW in '93 it just looked old when I brought it back after each trip, but after a wash & a few repairs it was ready to go again.
Nowadays, I am on Night Trunk from Carnforth to Glasgow & back( really exiting).
Hope that you are keeping well.

Ian, since you & I seem to be the only ones that know, and that only Steve, is trying to answer, should we take him out of his misery, and give him the answer, in a PM,
The rest can of course keep trying.
Dave.

Hi Dave

I think we should give Steve 1 more day as he has been so close, before we send him a PM as I think he will get it with the last clue. :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

LOl,You say a few repairs? Dave your mind must still be mixed up.
There was not a mud wing or light stay left, they had all dropped off.

Your screen was gone, Batteries gone, Fuel tank fix on with straps, Fuel filter behined on the o/s drop wing under the cab filter by passed and thats if the drop wing was still there. Trailer spring bushs gone mud wing dropped off tryes well lets not go there no wonder you used to hire the trailer it was then there problem.

So in short Dave. You used to tell me where you went to, now you either drove out the yard parked up for 3 months and stip the truck your self sold the bits and smashed the screen and then sold your tyres and got trade ins or you was a real truck driver going to just about the end of the earth and back?

Hi Peter

I am going to Jump up on my orange box so I hope that you will excuse me as the phrase (come back when you have grown up young man) used get up my nose in 1971 from the old boys on Crow Carrying, Henery Smithers, BRS and other companys, so please read on. :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

Every Driver must start some where & time the opportunities as what they do & where they go depends on many factors For O/D’s Job Price for the employed wages, work taken on by the employers, also their own confidence.

I was a late starter but enough years before the wall fell down so I had some very good adventures & bad ones form Russia to Qatar & mostly Eastern & some Western European destinations. I also made some great decisions & some very bad ones but the best one I ever made with the Truck that I had at the time was not to go to Zarafshan. I would have had to bring it home in a bucket so for Dave’s to make it back under it’s own power makes it a good truck.

Any way I must be stupid as I am still a steering wheel attendant just older and slower

Best Regards
Ian

The trips you lads used to do words can say to new driver of today and the truck that you used.

I have been with so many drivers when they come back on Fridays nights saying. go around this round about then lights, that hill and lots more junk.

What about trun left at the camel, far more intresting. :sunglasses:

Just how many do middle east work this day and age? or is it not profitable now?

Regards

Peter
