Hi Dave

I think we should give Steve 1 more day as he has been so close, before we send him a PM as I think he will get it with the last clue. :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

Regards
Ian

Well Ian, as nobody else is prepared to have a guess you might as well reveal where the photo was taken  .
I must admit that the church in the back ground looks very familiar but maybe there are a few like it, infact I am sure that there was one near Zeebrugge which looks a bit like that one. I thought that Brit Pete and K.W. Keith might of known this or even Bert Wolther’s if they look on this thread. The mention of a brick chimney rings a bell and I am linking that to an old nearby brickworks for some reason but apart from Venlo I have run out of ideas and I have a strong feeling that I am going to kick myself when you tell us the answer. It’s a good photo though and many thanks for sharing it with us, just remind me what the prize was again for the person who came up with the nearest answer  .

Regards Steve.

Hammer Man:
I was searching on a well known search engine for information on companies as I want to start driving overseas and would love to get into driving abnormal loads… What a suprise when this forum pops up in the search with a picture of my grandad!! Dave Anderson… I will point him in the direction of this forum so he can see for himself!!

Hi Jimmy, sorry to hear that your Granddad Dave is not so well, I am sure that there are alot of people on Trucknet like myself who have never met him but hopes that his health takes a turn for the better soon. Which one is he on this photo ?, did he work for Astran and do you know which other companies he worked for ?. Next time you go and see him sit down and ask him has he got any old photos and what stories he can remember, I am sure that he has at least one or two that are unique to him and hopefully you will be able to share them with us. It would be great if you could show him Truckerash’s Trucking In The Eighties 80’s thread, I am sure that it would be a great tonic for him, it will cheer him up and no daubt bring a smile to his face.

Regards Steve.

Hi Steve

You have it Venlo
I am running out of photo’s but the wife tells me that there are some more in NL & she thinks that there may be more in BG, but they will have to wait untill next year.
Still the one good thing about moving so much is you would not believe how small the wife’s suitcase is when she travels
Best Regards
Ian

Hi Ian, the old eyesight is going a bit but it looks to me like one of those Romtrans fridges being pulled by a Roman Diesel.
You better hang back abit Dave just in case the back axle decides to drop off  .

Dave

Is it a diversion round a town it must be ,I remember just before the town you turned right, then left, then left again, then right back onto the road if you was heading towards Bulgaria, reverse that if heading for Hungary.

Roger

Just a stab in the dark…Turnu Severin…

Hi folks, I’ve just found this site and spent all last night reading it.

I cant think theres many who got into the middle east job as I did. I was a fruit and potato merchant, all our customers were closing down and I got sick of it. I’d only ever drove a 3 ton truck, but got a class one by accident. The trainer only had a little bedford artic.

I bought a new DAF 2800. The salesman laughed at the daft questions I asked him.

Anyway I got a job and off I went to Abba? Saudi arabia, learned to drive on the way. Abba is on a mountain just short of the Yemen boarder, they had not built the road there yet, so I got dragged most of the lat 60 miles with a D9 bulldozer. That was in 1976. Did alot of internal stuff after that, plus 25 trips to Saudi Iraq and Kuwait. Stopped in about 1981, the money had gone out of it.

I must have 100’s of stories, hardly any pictures though. I always put the film in the camera wrong!!

I am going with that, it looks familiar to the road I was on when I saw a wheel pass me, it too looked familiar as the truck lurched over :stuck_out_tongue:
