showtruckdaf:
Thanks to all for the memory of John Williams, so what happened to Snowie & ■■■■ Rivers, any info on these two guys?.
Regards from showtruckdaf
Hi Showtruckdaf. I am he who is writing the Astran book
I have good info on all of the men you have mentioned which will be published in the book, so you’ll have to wait unil early 2010 to read it all
Sadly Snowie passed away in 1995 and as far as I am aware ■■■■ Rivers has also died but confirmation is required. I cannot trace him or his family.
Dave Poulton and Frank Hook are very much alive and kicking and both are well. Again check out the Astran book for loads of great quotes and anecdotes from both of them!
If you would like a “mint” copy of Destination Doha, it is being re-released at the end of this month, beginning of next.
Contact; oldpond.com and look on the DVD page for more details. It will be selling for around £17.
well the only place that will not stop bouncing around my head is Donji Miholjac but it seems wrong, this was a border that defeated the Hungarian axle limit iirc. Was the bridge being replaced?
I can only remember 3 main crossings, the Dam, the Calafat ferry and Komarno. where is Biffo?
mushroomman:
Good to see you back Mr Fox , I hope that you had a good Ramadam and you didn’t get too drunk .
Now let’s see if you or Roger can remember where this photo of this TEMPORARY bridge was taken, it’s open to anybody so come on I am sure that some of you will know it .
Regards Steve.
Hi All
Well think that the bridge was at Harmanli Bulgaria?
bullitt:
Steve…are you sure that you actually went there!!
Hi Rick, I am beginning to think that myself , so which ( Z.B. ) used my camera while I wasn’t watching ?.
Sorry Wheel Nut, Hungary is the wrong country .
Well done Jaws, it’s not quite right but you are on the right road .
If you are after another clue, then here it is.
The name of the town where you crossed this river was often referred to by drivers as a place which sounded like the name of a ■■■■■■■■ transmitted disease .

mushroomman:
I thought that somebody would of got this bridge before now I am surprised as I am sure that you all went over the old bridge just up the river while it was not being repaired. These are a few Trucknet members who I think went over this temporary floating bridge.
Roger…Definitely.
Red Dessert Fox…Probably.
Rocky 7…Definitely.
BrucyBoy… Definitely.
Bestbooties…Definitely.
Alan Jones…Definitely
M. and C. Jamie…Probably.
Peter The Plater…Definitely.
Klunk…Possibly.
Sheep Lady…Possibly.
TruckyBoy…Probably.
Terry Smith…Possibly.
OHHHHH Roger, if you mean this bridge at Edirne then you are not too far away, less that several hours if you were going north but if you were going south like I was when I took the photo then you could be three or four days away , but have another go, have another go.
I thought that you might of all got it with that clue
Well with assistance from Dave Mc we think that it is Simeomovgrad if I am wrong I will tell him as I am Spaeking to him on Skype at the momement

Hi Ian, can you ask Dave W.T.F. is Simeomovgrad , if it’s near Kazakstan then your last guess was a lot closer as it is only a short rowing boat ride away from that temporary bridge.
Tell him his website is coming along brilliantly and also I found out what happened to Billy Tingle . I mentioned him to Ken Corrigan the last time I saw him so why not call Ken and meet up for a drink with him one afternoon but make it on pension day and yes Alan Jones was also referred to by that name but I never liked using it as he was such a nice fellow.

davemackie:
Hi Steve, Simeonovgrad is the next river crossing up river, or you can go via Dimitrovgrad, any of these two ?.
Dave.
Hi Dave, is your Simeonovgrad the same place as Svilengrad ( or Syphillusgrad ) , if so then you are the winner :
I must admit that I haven’t heard it called that before but it might be one of those Danzig or was Gdansk situations, but well done to you anyway .
The first time that I crossed this temporary bridge when I took the photo, which was controlled by the Bulgarian Army, they told me that it would only be used while they were doing repairs on the bridge up river that was in fact built by the Romans and that the repairs would take about a month. The repairs took over six months to complete ( it may of have taken longer ) so unless somebody only used the border at Ipsala every trip then I should of thought that everybody would of used it. The only thing that I am not certain about was if it was in the summer of 1981 or 82 but at least somebody remembered the town .
Hi Steve I can not really claim this prize, before I asked which direction, I had already though of Svilingrad, but when you said Upriver I changed my post. Does this river flow west? I would have said Svilingrad was down river.
Anyway puzzle solved, do you have any more.
Simeonovgrad is the next town on the river north of Harmanli
Hi Dave
No not upset just very disappointed with my self ( at least 50 km out) the old gray matter seem to be turning to MUD, laying at the bottom of the river and not doing a thing. I might need the jump leads again to see if I can get some of it working again? please keep your fingers crossed for me.
Regards to All
Ian
