Hi Gavin go to your pic if it is on photobucket (I don’t think you will need to resize it if its the one I saw) open it then left click on the direct link box belowit will turn blue then right click on it and then left click copy, go to your profile and at the bottom paste into the 'Link to off-site Avatar 'box!

Hi if this works here are some pics from saudi about1975/6
I’m certain this the roundabout at Jeddah outside the hotel( name?) where we used to park. my trailer is on the far left
A£75 / night hotel room! and before the experts say they wouldn’t pay it - it was so humid and hot that you had to now and then to get clean and have a nights sleep. We used to club together and take a room for a week and whoever was in town would use it with some extras sleeping on the floor. as usual some forgot to pay!
view out of the side window of £75 / night hotel
After I sold my Scammell to ‘Big Howard’ a Ted Heath lookalike I stayed in the flat of his partners co. That is one of their Volvos outside, Icant remember the name but they had a big cheetah on the door- soon to be named 'cheeter trans. We were based next door to the ‘Hadj’ building where the pilgrims used to assemble, on ‘shipping’ days you could not get on or off the park, they would put the women and children in the back of any empty trailer and the men would sleep under it. The women would use the inside of the trailer as a toilet! You only stopped there once!!
Hi Gavin that’s not a day cab Brains Scania in the middle of the pic is it?
Regards Pat

Does anyone know the current owner of a ex PTS Volvo Globe 6x2 repainted into dark blue, I got talking to him once and mentioned he does sellers down to the Middle East for Astran, and mentioned that Chris Hooper was a very good friend of his. I didnt get his name, but he seemed pretty young to be doing M/E work. Does anyone know who he is?
ROBV8
You must be talking about a chap that used to go by the name of young Phil. That’s because he was so young when he started driving to Turkey. He has also done a lot of Kazakstan etc, and some Saudi and Doha trips. In fact Phil just got back from a trip to Doha.I have been friends with Hooperman for about 25 years and Phil has known Chris almost as long.Phils Dad and Hoops used to have twin F89’s in the early eighties.
I have known Phil since he was a teenager, doing UK work for Roy Bradford. I took Phil down to Lisbon on his first European trip as a Class 1 driver when he was barely 21 !! and then we did loads of Turkey together. Phil was Roy’s Golden Boy and nearly always got back loads from Istanbul when the rest of us had several pick-ups all around Rumo. I went on for Astran and some years later Phil became an Owner Driver and started pulling for Dave Hogg, and then for Astran.
How old were you when you started RobV8 ? Have you ever done Turkey or Middle-East work.
Best regards
GS
Hi Pat , I think it was, also I seem to recall that the yellow Daf was UK reg, as well. A lot of stuff was shipped out loaded by RO-RO into Jeddah with the intention of using it internally afterwards but they had to be sold to a Saudi (he would have to own at least 51% and no re-export) to do it properly. There was a Gartside there who ran a number of scania 80’s I think he had the Unilever contract.
I got away with doing internals because I did not there stay too long between trips. We were on ‘transit visas’ even though we had delivered into Saudi, if you had an accident or some big problem they could get stroppy but most of the time they were just glad to get the goods moved.
GS ‘young Phill’ was also called young to distinguish him from his father ‘old Phill’ who I am sure you remember very well! He was also in Jeddah when I was there, the last time I saw him was at a Post Office distribution centre somewhere around Slough. He had a P.O. container from Barking & I had one from Southampton, he was trying hard to sell his twin engined motor cruiser moored no the Orwell to an Aisan van driver for £30.000.00!!!
Can anyone tell me why my pics have been removed?
[Owner Driver and started pulling for Dave Hogg,]
Was that ‘Oggy’ who used to do Greece ? Anybody know what happened to him…?
It’s good to see your back Harry, where have you been ?

Go back into your photobucket account and have a look there. any pictures you move from there will also disappear from any forums you posted them on. Even if you resize on photobucket, the pictures will echo that on here.

That sounds like him, I got a PM 2 weeks ago from someone called philipmceveley? He didn’t like the fact I enquired about him and thought I questioning his authenticity as a M/E man. Where abouts does he operate from, the north west of the UK?
Just out of intrest how many trucks did astran runat there peak and when did they stop running there own trucks
Young Phil is Phil McKelvey.
