Hi Harry, the oggy that you asked about doing Greece is Brian hogg, who runs or ran Anglo Greek in Silvertown and then Beckton. He was tied in with Veonellis shipping in pireous. The other one Is Dave Hogg of Hoggsped from near Nottingham who now does a lot of international low loader work.
( no distance too far for the flying pink pig) Regards jamie.

A Scot lost in the Valley’s.

That is not the bloke I remember.

The young Phil I remember was a slim bloke who drove to the Middle East.

How are you Phil?

Rod Holt sent his regards too.

You may of disclosed your location to someone else when we met, I am adamant it was not me, but thats besides the point. Why do you suffer from the fixation that I have dubious beliefs about your experience? Show me any evidence, extorted from any of my posts or PM that reinforce your allegation…

I would love to make it clear here, I’ve never doubted you and never will. If i did, why would I advertise a rather precise description of you and your vehicle, in a thread amongst people that I was confident that knew you?

P.S. I’ve never done Middle East / Turkey and never want too, unless your offering me a opportunity? eh Phil?

now now fingers keep ya roof on laa

M&C Jamie; Thanks for the info.

When I was going to school in Lutterworth in Leicestershire in the late 70’s I used to see an Astrans artic parked on a driveway in front of a house on the left hand side just before you entered Lutterworth.

Hello Paul. (Blueknight)
That was my truck you used to see parked between trips.
Please dont make me feel any older than i am though, by telling me you were still at school !! Just to make you feel a bit younger though it would have been 81 onwards.

In 1976 when doing internals in Saudi I was asked to take a load to Najran near the Yemen border. The Arabs used to go across the desert from somewhere between Taif and Ryadh but they said it was not a good way for non- locals, but that I should go to the top of Taif and turn right along the top of the mountain until I reached Khamis Mashet keep going through the town and I would finally reach Najran The following pics are of the road I took at times I had to wait for them to level it out. Some time after leaving Khamis I was into open desert and was driving along following the tracks, I passed a police post with them sleeping inside, sometime later (maybe an hour) I came upon another police post this one was definately not sleeping he was standing in front of me with his gun and was quite insistant that I turned around. So I did and got back to the other policepost with out seeing any turnoff tracks. When I got to this other police post he was also quite insistant that I kept going back ,I said Najran? and he pointed back up the road, I had been driving for some time when I came to a cross roads in the sand. I was sitting there scratching my head when a pickup truck came from one of the side roads and an English voice called out Najran? I shouted yes and he bekoned me to follow him, I did and ended up in Najran.(He was working on site -either a hospital or school) If I had not seen him just at that time I’m not sure that I would ever have found it. I was told when I got back that I had probably strayed into N. Yemen, I don’t know.
Before any expert says why did yuo not buy a map, I had a map but they were very much like the one at the beginning of this thread!
If any one cares look at Google earth and follow the 5 south from Taif

and these are some of the views along the route - note the tiles sticking out of the mud walls to stop the rain washing the mud off.

Cheers for taking the time to post the pics and the memories Gavin, anything like this is very much appreciated

Keep em coming mate,

Cheers, bullitt.
