No problem at all 'Arry, either you start earlier or you go to one of the many bars that seem to be âimmuneâ to any closure or curfewâŠ
I see the Navy has taken over Pats police station. I suppose they wanted a seaview place to hangout. I wonder if they will also take over the falang motorbike highway robbery stations?
((Bit off topic on this thread MC))

Hi arch itâs mark Alexander dons boy love too speak to you not to good with computers got loads of stories & photos !WoW ! Hullo Mark, itâs really good to hear from you. Iâve often asked different people if they know what happened to you all, I am so pleased to hear from you. I was very very sorry to hear about Don, I only found out about two years ago, on this site. How are you all keeping ? Is Mel still alright ? What is Glen doing now, and what are you doing now. Are you all still living in and around Loughton ? It would certainly be good to speak to you, and them again. In fact I have to go to London on June 7th, but it is a bit of a tight schedule, I am picking up my New Missus from Heathrow. Thatâs on a Saturday. I could easily drive down a day earlier, on the Friday and buy you all a Drink or something⊠Look forward to speaking to you again, please pass on my regards and best wishes to the others.
Cheers, Archie.

Did you ever get But to get her Passport ?, since you told me about it, Iâve been waiting for you to appear on the doorstep. Wedding ?, what Wedding ? Donât be so silly, people say come to my house, when really itâs only a rented property, itâs the same with women, itâs a rent job really, no dog collar for me. O.Dâs sounds to be still the perfect spot to go to, lovely food and lovely Company there. How is the old Kraut ? Does that girl from next door to you still work there ? What was her name Jep ? Anyway it is quite possible We might pass that way again, later in the year, say October time, but see if you can get over here first. I might have another job soon, a bloke I have known for a good few years, an old mate from Hull and Whittles, rang me yesterday, do I want to do a Fridge job once a week, Load at Wakefield for Belgium, tip out then load in Belgium for Boroughbridge. Sounds to be OK so I will be seeing him shortly, try to climb back into the saddle for a while, earn myself a few Baht. Chokdee.
It would seem that old Middle East Truck Drivers never die, they are all just trucking somewhere, Thailand by the sound of thingsâŠ
All the very best.
Mick
Can anybody still remember the name of that club in Piraeus near The Lantern Cafe where all those Thai girls worked. I used to wonder whatever happened to Mem somebody did tell me that a Swedish driver bought her passport back off the guy who owned the club and took her to live in Sweden. Happy days⊠and nights.

Hi Steve,
Was it the John Bull Club you are thinking of ?
I thought that the cafĂ© was called the LANDFORT (spelling ?) we got Sunday roast there and how about Johnâs shop opposite where the boats come and went to the islands , he had a souvenir shop along the front where we changed our money, he was a bright character and spoke many languages - thatâs going back a bit, I wonder if he is still about, I took a load of Gillette blades to Piraeus and had a one to one with a customs bloke who decided to open one of the cartons and load his jacket up, I went into orbit as I thought that I had bought the load safely from Brentford and this geezer decided to help himself which resulted in me getting a claused signature, the police got involved and they took my side resulting in the geezer getting a bit of a b****king. more memories eh -
Regards Fred

Hi Steve,

Sorry Archie, I just canât remember the name of the place at the moment. I was taken there by an owner driver from the North East who used to pull a fridge. You know who I mean as you mentioned his name a few years ago on one of your posts. No names, no pack drill but his girlfriend allegedly worked for Thai Airways out at the airport. I keep trying to picture the place in my mind but all I keep getting is a small pair of denim shorts and a Ralph Lauren polo shirt, which was probably a look alike anyway.
Regards Steve.
Hi Steve, I hope life down under is still treating you well, I just canât think at the moment of the man you mean, itâs an age thing you know. I do however remember another bloke from the North East very well, but he pulled a Supercube Trailer. This guy was madly in love with a Thai girl in one of the Bars. The bar was, if you went back across the square (St.Nicks), past the church, then went to go up the hill as if you were going to The Plum Pudding. Over on the left was a nice little Cafe ran by Chris, just past his cafe take a left turn, and then about 20 yards along on thr right was a Club/Bar, right opposite a Hotel, which I also forget the name of. This Club / Bar was where this bloke was in love with his Thai Bird
Is this perhaps where you are thinking of ? PS, Was it KW ?
Cheers, Archie.
Hi Archie, yes you are right he did have a super cube trailer, his first name was actually Dave but I am sure that you have got his surname correct.
Now that you have mentioned it there were a couple of bars as you went over the hill towards the seafront but this place that I went to was more of a night club than a bar which was owned by a Greek Cypriot.
Regards Steve.
Hullo Steve,
Yes youâre dead right his name was Dave, thatâs the man I was talking about, I used to give him my Yugo Permits, because working for Hoggy I was always booked on the Ancona Ferry, Loverly Job.
No mate donât go to the top of the hill, go past Agio Nikola (spelling) the church. Then as you start to go up the hill Europa Hotel on the corner on your left, about 20 yds up from there still on youâre left was Christoâs Cafe on a corner. Turn left into that street, you are now running parallel with the Seashore Road. Just about another 20 yds from where you turned left, on your right was the Club. If you were with Dave then this was definately the spot. She was though a very tasty looking bird. Last time I heard of Dave, he had left Penny, his wife, he was working in a Garage on the A69. He was a fully trained MG Mechanic.
Cheers, Archie.
Joe Taylor had a similar experience . Met a club gal in Athens ,left his wife. Only trouble was the gal was Welsh. Joe ended up in Swansea ,commuting once a week to Otipas yard as watchman. Poor old Joe hated Wales and hated the job.
Before that he had a lovely house in Brightlingsea.
Bernie Willis driving for Parkes International Trailers, the precursor of Whitetrux and also managed by the legendary Brian Starbuck, pictured at the bottom of Tahir in 1974. My truck at that time, a Mercedes 1924 of Freightlanes is just out of the picture on the right.
If you tap on Andys above snap you can view the complete picture & album.
I heard or read somewhere that this Scania had had a Fuller Roadranger or an Eaton Twin-splitter fitted. Does anyone know exactly what it DID have? Cheers. Robert
