It blew up a few years ago, I’m sure I’ve seen pics of it somewhere since then though. It maybe on the R&H thread (if one exists) as I’m sure they lost a driver when it went bang.
Fred wrote - I think that it reopened after the bang, I have a couple of Belg: newspapers referring to the fire, pity that I cannot read the news report as it is obviously in Belg: having been going in there for many years we obviously got to know the staff and when Wally died his partner Lillian took the reins as you probably recall, I often wonder if she survived 'cos a few staff and drivers were killed and I think one of Cavewood’s was mentioned .We have good memories and sad memories from our past. regards all - Fred

Hey, 2 obliged signs on our fuel tanks in the ‘70’ and later. And the grease pits in Eynatten Fina Fuelstation were usefull in those days between the fuelpumps for a fast repair,or even a clutch change, or the most comon change of a Scania’s universal joint .
Look at the fuel gauge under the white Arrow, very usefull to fill in the German Tankschein
Next year 20 years ago,we are coming old
Cheers Eric,
Evening all,
Just reminiscing about watering holes and meeting places, thinking about the Wally Stop at Eynhatten, and I remembered Steve’s (Mushroomans) post a while back about a regular stop over just into Czech at Zinwald, The Hotel Sport. I seem to recall the first time I stopped there en route to can’t rememberwhere, I arrived about 7:00pm on a winters night around December 1980/81 and although it looked closed I managed to get some food, get warm by the fire and have a glass or two of Plzen lager. Great beer and so cheap!!! seem to remember a deposit of 10 marks for the crate and bottles, fully refundable if you brought them back… As if, bringing them back meant you just had to fill them up again.
Around 10:pm it looked as we were about to be asked to leave, when there was a loud banging on the storm shutters protecting the windows just next to the table I was sitting at, next thing I knew someone opened the window and wooden shutters and in climbed two Danish truck drivere both wearing metal nordic viking style helmets…
The worrying thing is, it seemed very reasonable and not unususl in the least. Needless to say closing time was postponed and I can’t remember much other than the 5:00 am start had been postponed.
All the very best
Mick

Hi Rikki - re your uncle Barry who was on Cantrell’s, was he from Luton ? I am talking of the 1975’s time, and if it is the same slimline Barry than I knew then I have got a few photo’s of him, would be interesting to know if it is the same person as there was only one Barry on Cantrell’s. Regards Fred
It is possible as I had little contact with my Mums (Barry’s sister) side of the family until the very late 70’s/ early 80’s when he was at Mavetons and living in Loughton so dont know where he was living before that
Slimline would adequatly describe him … short, wirey and feisty also works…
edit: in fact at that time he was living in Woodford Green not Loughton, that was where the yard was…
He also told me a few things about what really happened when Mavetons/D W Burns/Hopepeak disappeared overnight, but those are definatly not tales to be told on here
I should love to hear these tales - I am the daughter of Lew Sains.
Fred wrote - I knew Barry very well and I have a couple of very good pic’s with him, he gave my wife a cigarette lighter and it is still working to this day although she is not a smoker, incidentally it was about 77/78 time - I am a bit involved today but I will sort the pic’s out - watch this space.
I have located a couple of photo’s of Barry, I had a few laughs with him and he is well remembered, he lived in Luton at the time we were running M/E in the 70’s
Another of Barry - just found it, he is with my wife and their two kids (?) I remember that he was a menace in a nice way - when we were on the train and enjoying a night kip he would go through the train in the middle of the night shouting CONTROL-CONTROL-CONTROL in his English come German accent - that’s why I remember him, and I sure this little tale will nudge a few others memories eh - good old Barry - we love yer mate

Hi arch it’s mark Alexander dons boy love too speak to you not to good with computers got loads of stories & photos !
WoW ! Hullo Mark, it’s really good to hear from you. I’ve often asked different people if they know what happened to you all, I am so pleased to hear from you. I was very very sorry to hear about Don, I only found out about two years ago, on this site. How are you all keeping ? Is Mel still alright ? What is Glen doing now, and what are you doing now. Are you all still living in and around Loughton ? It would certainly be good to speak to you, and them again. In fact I have to go to London on June 7th, but it is a bit of a tight schedule, I am picking up my New Missus from Heathrow. That’s on a Saturday. I could easily drive down a day earlier, on the Friday and buy you all a Drink or something… Look forward to speaking to you again, please pass on my regards and best wishes to the others.
Cheers, Archie.

New missus, Archie? Not the one you were with when we met up in Thailand?
Ron
Hullo Ron, how are you mate ? Are you managing to survive in that 33c in Kanchanaburi at the moment ? I obviously worded that a bit wrong, I though after I had posted it, I’ll bet somebody thinks I’ve bought myself a mail order bit of stuff No, I’m still with Maria. I came home as I normally do in late April, as there is always stuff to do in the house and garden that need doing before the Summer, and she had to stay on a bit to do a few things at her end. What I actually meant was, that I was’nt with my Wife that Don Alexander’s family knew. I hope both you and Ruang are in the best of health, and enjoying life. You never know I might just surprise you soon and arrive in the L.O.S. again. When I do I’ll give you a bell and you can come into town and buy me that beer you owe me. Chokdee .
M&C steve: " When I do I’ll give you a bell and you can come into town and buy me that beer you owe me. Chokdee . "
Let me know when that will be and i will come and join you…
I’ve not been to Kanchanaburi for a while now, about time i checked up on it again…
I would imagine that Chris Everitt would also like to attend.
Steve.
Hi Steve, I certainly wouldn’t go to Thailand without calling in to see you or Chris, come to think of it both you and him could also by me a beer too. I really must get onto Chris again, he contacted me earlier to say that But was in the throes of getting herself a Passport, then they would be coming to the MLM ( Multinational Land of Misery ). When, he didn’t say, but I’ve been expecting that knock on the door at anytime. How are you keeping mate ? Still living the life of Riley ? I hope so. Tchao.
