Over halfway through the book, hope I live long enough to finish itā¦
I have just joined this forum, and have read several comments of driving through the Middle East. In the 1980ās I drove through the Middle East, and had the privilege of meeting some of the greats of the Middle East run, namely the late Andrew WIlson Young & ā ā ā ā Snow. I also met Frank Hook, dont know of his whereabouts, these were drivers for Astran. Great comments

Welcome to Trucknet Gordon, would be interesting to hear of your trip to M/E - was it a one-off, where was your destination who were you running for etc: ? Look forward to hearing from you -

Thanks for that, but unfortunately it gets me no further, still the Photobucket page, with headings but no pictures.
Iāve tried googling Photobucket from scratch, and as soon as Iām on site,it recognises me and does not ask me to log on,but wont show any pictures.
No matter what I click on,no joy.
Not even the āHelpā facility is of any help!

Im surprised to hear that ā ā ā ā Snow was still driving in the 80s,I met him in the Londra mocamp about 1968 when it first opened, he was with Asian Transport before it was called Astran,he was a second world war submariner,he sometimes took his wife with him,I think she was a school teacher,a real character, big white beard, drank whiskey from the bottle,I think he was one of the first to do the m e,along with John Frost, cant be many of us left who done the job in the 60s. I was talking to a driver last year in Felixstowe he said that Saudi was easy, then he told me that he got a ferry from Greece across, missed out all of Turkey,Iraq,Kuwait, bottom of Saudi all the way to Jedder. That was the hard part.71 years old so have chucked in the hgv now.Good luck to the new drivers, they dont know what they missed. No you miss read that Suedehead, he said ā ā ā ā ās wife had a big white beard LOLā¦No offense Keating only having a laugh. By the way speaking of women with beards that drink whiskey from the bottle, does anyone remember some of the woman that used to work in the tire factory in the old eastern bloc?
Mr Booties have you tried using someone elseās computer to log in preferably not from your house eitherā¦
I was speaking to some one a few months back on the skype thing, AKA the Norman Collier machine, that told me Dave Poulton was still driving for Pulleynsā ā¦

Canāt imagine DP driving for Pulleynās jeff, (All flash no cash) as they were known, certainly not his scene. The last time I see him was at Gaydon about three years ago and as I recall he was with about six old Astran buddies and unfortunately he was using a walking stick so I would imagine that he is sitting back enjoying his retirement eh?
Regards Fred
Heard the same thing about the stick Fred, and it came as a bit of a surprise to me to hear that he was driving, and that the source had met him driving a Pullyens on a night shift at an RDC. Iām not going to say who the source was as weāre all getting on a bit and sometimes memories arenāt what it used to be.
Personally I canāt say anything about Dave as Iāve only ever seen him going the other way, but we were on light flashing terms, I was the guy in the Italian reg white FH, usually with a Cardi fridge.

Yes reading back on my post I did word it a bit wrong, glad some have a sense of humour. The tyre factory where we picked up from was Tiger Tyres in jugoslavia, dont know if that was the same,we had fridge boxes, and when the load came off, there was all tyre markes on the sides, and could not reload with meat.
