Astran / Middle East Drivers

robthedog:
Is it Pat Seale in the middle ?

mechanic77:
Heres a picture I’ve been asked post. It shows three South Wales based drivers on a middle east trip many years ago. We know who they are but do any of you old hands recognise them?
Neil.

No mate, that’s not Pat.

Could a couple of them be the Hob(b)s brothers?..Not sure if it is one “b” or two

I cannot recall the name, probably after my time but it is good to see a bit of action on the thread, I think that all of the lads stories etc: have expired but lets hope that someone will come up with a story that will activate the ‘old’ memory box.
regards Fred :unamused:

This has been asked before and it would seem that there were actually two fellas with the same nickname. The chap I met was called Kenny Bowkett ( I think), from Charlton on south London. There have been some pics posted of him on this thread somewhere. Known as “Kenny the Egg” or “Egg on Legs” for a very good reason, that being his actual body shape and size.
Apparently he went to live in Thailand for a while, coming back to the UK now and again. He,apparently, died on his last trip back to the UK, was found dead in his hotel room. A few of the old hand posters on here knew him, Truckyboy and Newmercman being two I think. I think he also worked for Roy Bradford for a time.

Absolutely right Bullitt, R.I.P. Kenny. As I seem to remember there was also another bloke, I seem to think that he was from the Grantham area called Kenny Ashton who was referred to as Egg on Legs too. He used to drive a scabby old Black F88. He always had a younger bloke in the cab with him, this was because he could’nt get out of the Cab to unlace or open the Tilt or dash out up steps, queue for papers, or any other sort of graft. Just sit on the seat drive, then roll over sideways onto the bottom bunk and flake out. I have often wondered what became of him. Does anybody else recall meeting this bloke.

Cheers, Archie.

I met a bloke on for Laceys of Barking in Milan once, he was twice the size of the SE7 Kenny, he never got out of the cab, no deliveries or collections, just a straight shot in and out of the same warehouse every week, it was round near the airport somewhere and I’m sure he had a 111, might have been a 2800, had to have been the fattest person I had ever seen…until I started driving in the USA, he’s anorexic compared to some of this lot over here

Thanks people for the replies ive passed on the info to my old man

You take your eye off the ball for two seconds and suddenly you find that you are half way down page three!

Have you been sleeping Fred?
