It must be me but why the hell do I get nothing of a picture if it says Photobucket?
I get plenty of pics no problem, and fast to, since loading the broadband but haven’t seen anything except little xs whenever Niamiamh posts now. Got his earlier pics though

Salut, David
Is anyone else having this problem with seeing my pic`s ■■?
Nice pics of the Marathon Mr Williams, are they all from the same Leyland brochure, and could they put any more veneered chipboard around that bunk?
According to a colleague at Daf, originally a Leyland man from the early 70s, the Middle East Marathon never made full production status, even if the brochures give the impression that it was an off the shelf model.
Another colleague who used to work for Cantrell (say no more) recalls seeing a convoy of Marathons trundling up Tahir one afternoon in the seventies, part of some promotional venture I believe. He says he’s got some pics of the said trucks, although finding them will probably be a task more difficult than sending an old Leyland up the aforementioned mountain !
when its hot and the windows are down the kids keep climbing up the side of the cab…so this window guard is to keep them away while you cook or rest or whatever…we used to have a wire mesh fitted to the windows to stop the thieves getting in.

Cheers TB, had an idea that thats what they were for.
Looking at those exterior shots seems to look more like a Leyland publicity shot, did Leyland try to get Astran to buy Marathons? by lending them a truck
I know BRS bought them
I’m waiting for a reply to a mail I sent to an old friend who worked at Astran at the time they shot the Destination Doha film, because I seem to remember he told me many years ago that the BBC would only do the film if there was a British truck involved in the trip.
That’s when Leyland stepped in to supply the truck driven by ■■■■ Rivers.
My friend also told me that it only did the one trip as it kept breaking down.
The shots are actually from a brochure depicting the ‘Special’ cab for the Middle East.
Any news from you friend yet? I was speaking to a guy from our place that used to do the M/E runs whilst on the boat and he told me that ■■■■ Snow getting bogged in was all planned, do you happen to know if there is any truth to that?
I’ve managed to track a brochure down and am in the process of,wait for it…a purchase
Did you manage to acquire your purchase? If so can you please post some scanned pics?
No news from him yet,he’s in France at the moment signing for a house he’s bought there.
The bit about Snowy is true. The Beeb wanted to capture on film a situation like that,so it was staged.Unfortunately, the rest of them getting bogged down wasn’t planned, and they were not impressed at having to dig all the other’s out as well!

I cant view the pics either all I have are square boxes with small red crosses in. but I can view the photos of the BRS Overland and Dutch reg Marathons halfway down the thread . I also get the red crosses on certain avitars but never knew it was supposed to be a photo just thought it was a lack of imagination.
Thanks KW ,i’ve got them now. Excellent pics, The cab looks really well designed inside, could show a few manufacturers how to do things in 2006. Not too sure we could manage with 245 BHP though
this pic was took at the model show at gaydon this year its a 1:25 scale transkit
from kfs and is an exact replica of the brs marathon including the under bunk kitchen
