Here’s a pic of my Marathon. Plus a very good Boxer, which I sold.
[/img]
What a truck.Spent many a happy school holiday with my Dad in his, used to love it.I’ve posted a few photo’s of his on here.
Love to have a go at building that model and put it in P.J.Butlers colours.
I personally think the Marathon1 was better than the Marathon2 even though the 2 had a 250 ■■■■■■■ in it.
Anybody got some more piccies of the Leyland Marathon or the Roadtrain please,i’d love to see some more
I Will see what i can dig up Jase i worked for Westrope bros (essex )they ran marathons and then the howling Roadtrains for many years …
I think the Roadtrain was a bit before its time,as most drivers clammer for a flat floor nowadays and the Roadtrain near enough had one.
Just a shame the engineering was a bit poor.
I remember Westrope’s running around with them.
Not sure if anyone is interested or if this has been posted before but there is a guy on Ebay selling dvd’s and he has one called “southall twighlight” which has a film on it of a Leyland Marathon on a trip to Italy. Truck is driven by ■■■■ Rivers and is obviously an old Leyland promotional film. Well worth a look though.
If anyone wants it i’ll dig out his username.
would that be v8jimmy he,s got some great stuff for sale
THE SPEC MUST HAVE BEEN PUT INTO PRODUCTION. I BOUGHT A MARATHON OFF BELFAST DEALERSHIP IN LATE 70’S
( WILL TRY AND PUT PIC ON LATER) IT WAS USED TO DRAW BEEF
MOSTLY TO YUGOSLAVIA AND BULGARIA FROM IRELAND.
WHILE I WAS IN BELFAST THERE WERE 6 MIDDLE EAST SPEC
MARATHON - 6 WHEELER DOUBLE DRIVE TRACTOR UNITS
BUT I WAS TOLD THAT PUBLIC WORKS (ROAD CONTRACTORS )
HAD BOUGHT 10 OF THEM, 4 THEY HAD GOT BUT THEY EITHER
WENT INTO ADMINISTRATION OR THEIR CONTRACT IN
MIDDLE EAST WAS TERMINATED. EITHER WAY I WAS
OFFERED THEM AT THE SAME MONEY AS THE 4-WHEELER BUT I THOUGHT THEM A BIT HEAVY FOR ME.
You gotta check this out

even though it looked good that marathon was prone to breakdowns and ended up back at Leyland as a demonstrater i think
This one had a 265 Royles Royce engine.
The chassis broke in two about 1.5 years after I bought it, going onto the boat in Fleetwood, the cab went back against the fridge-motor.
I had received a recall letter from Leyland about 2 weeks beforehand, saying that there was a problem with the chassis cracking in some models.
A couple more…
Love that first pic, driving in"proper snow" and not a front foglight, sorry . . . driving light to be seen !!
