Big Leggy
Ref ex ACH man Martin Griffin, spoke to him yesterday, he says he was on there in the mid 80s, was good friends with Kevin Sculley if you remember him? He had a 141 when he went on, later having a Globetrotter. Says he not surprised if you do not remember him as the only time all the wagons were in the yard together was Xmas Day.

Still cannot place him – I was there at that time though & remember Kevin very well, he started well after I did and left and returned as well !!
It’s true that it was only Xmas when all the trucks were in the depot, mind you having said that I believe I can recall some being left at a customer in Northampton, also we never did get all the trailers into Stone !!
Martin — give me another clue ?
I drove a 141 followed by a selection of 112’s or 142’s before a Magnum – also drove a Volvo Globetrotter for two trips to Greece before I managed to get back onto a Scania 142…
Big Leggy,
Griff lived in Faringdon when 1st married, he worked for Radclive Transport, Faringdon, would have been in his late 20s early 30s when on ACH, also worked for White Trux, Canterbury (Middle East), also tankers for Air Products, Didcot, thats where we met. I know Kev Sculley too, although not seen him for years, he was an O/D on Cannons of Milton on the PFA tankers, I was on General on there. Crazy world we live in isnt it, when some of our closest aquaitancies are nothing more than a flash of lights & a hand wave!

We’ve got to stop meeting like this as I appear to be following you around on more than one thread/subject !
Must know him if he was on Radclives as when I was on A.C.Biggs, Leighton Buzzard we had a “tie in” with Radclives (same parent company)!!
Faringdon man ■■ There was a few drivers on A.C.H. from that area — but just cannot place him !!
Kevin I’ve not seen for over 5 years (maybe more) – I heard he was on a company out Whitney way !!
Big Leggy,
Funny, I was thinking the same thing, I am going to check my sleeper in the morning before I pull away cos you will probably be back there! I not know where Kevin is now, not seen or heard of him for years, Griff was saying I got to ring him when he is home at the weekend and get him on here so he can probably refresh your memory himself. Amazing really though that Haulage must be one of the only industries in the world where people who have never met & probably never will can find so much combined knowledge/memories of people & places, all in the space of a few e-mails!
can anyone name this ex ach driver?
crank case
When was this photograph taken – before or after ACH days ■■ I cannot place who it is at the moment — any clues ■■

look george youve gone upmarket and oirish!!!
It was an ACH driver who was directly responsible for me becoming a wagon driver. He gave me and a mate a lift to Italy in around 1984 and I loved it and as soon as I was 21 I took my test.
Anyone remember him? Robin Anderson he was, from I believe, Leighton Buzzard.
Wolfie.

Robin Anderson wasn’t from Leighton Buzzard !!
There were two brothers [obviously both Robinson] on ACH at different times !!
Robin Anderson [if it was back in 1984] was ex Howe European & arrived at ACH when the company was bought out by Aston Clinton Hlge. !!
He left [along with all the Howe drivers - bar two] and went to work for Hercocks of London !!
He was killed in France a short while after that in a road accident involving his truck !!
Ahh I nearly had kittens there for a minute until I remembered a long forgotten fact. Robins brother was killed in France in a road accident. I knew that.
My trip with Robin would have to be before 1986 cos thats when I got my class 1
Could it have been Leamington Spa?
Lonewolf Yorks
My sincere apologies !! No excuses !! I got them mixed up – the time scale confused me [along with the Ouzo, Frizanti & Raki] !! Time seems to go so fast that I thought “1984 ? That sounds about right period for the fatal accident” !!
It was Steve Anderson who was killed – but the information about him being ex Howe etc is correct !!
Robin Anderson [“pep-pill” to us who knew him] – Last time I saw him I was still at ACH (before it became Norbert Dentressangle) at Aylesbury and he drove in with a rigid truck and was purchasing old used HGV tyres (I believe he was self-employed) !!
I believe at that time he did live in the Leamington area !!
Next time I’ll put my brain/memory in gear before letting the handbrake off of my mouth !!
LOL not to worry. So where is Robin nowadays, when did Norbert take over ACH?
Hi, i would be very interested in hearing any stories about Frank kilday, his brother is a good friend of mine and would love to hear any tales…
Lrm

Now then you Aston Clinton drivers !! we’ve got a Volvo here XJO 904R has anyone got any pictures of her, she’s still going strong but she’s in disguise as a blue tractor unit these days !!! any pictures when she was younger would be much appreciated. I believe she was a 6 x 2 unit in those days.
Ta John
Hullo Big Leggy,
I remember Steve being in that accident, it happened on rotten foggy day in between Tournus and Bourge en Bresse, on the road towards Jayat. He was on Hercocks by that time, working with Johnie Whitbread and all those other rogues. I also can remember Robin, a real nice bloke.
Hullo Lady Driver,
Where’s this man of yours ? I thought he was going to come on here very soon. Tell him we’re all waiting for him or is he still searching for that bloody kettle.
Cheers, Archie.
