Big Leggy :
Yeah too right mate, A.C.H R.I.P. along with a good many other great names driven out the same way I suspect.
Looking back to what we had and what we did it’s hard to comprehend the changes in the last few years and even more difficult to see any benefits! So sad! So sad!
i have pics of gentleman george in his f88 he drove to the m/e in the 70`s for GT international from stirling, some good out in the desert pics i am home in scotland next week i will bring em down to other home in london, scan em and post em. also pics of his time with roadfreight int from ireland . he gave me these pics 28 years ago…ouch.
Any of you ex ACH guys remember a mate of mine that was on for them, Martin Griffin, he worked out of the old yard at Stone, he left for a few years when l met him on Tankers, we moved around together for a bit ending up on for HS Frederics out of Nijmegen, then he went back on for ACH at Aylesbury. He had a Magnum then in Norman Deckchairstranglers red.
adr
Martin Griffin ? Cannot place him – on A.C.H. at Stone & Aylesbury ?
I was at Stone – Aylesbury – Leighton Buzzard so I should know him ! Jog my memory a bit as the only two Martins I can place are Martin West & Martin Kempster (RIP) ! That’s not to say he wasn’t there, more like I have senility setting in ! There is a group of ex A.C.H. drivers who keep in touch so I’ll ask around ! If he had a “big red shed” then he was there in later years, my apologies if I’ve forgotten him !!

My dad drove for A.C.H for a while ( Derek Williams) and was there till Nobby’s closed down. Not a bad job by all accounts.
I heard Nobbys (ex ACH) closed down due to tacho offences, someone in the office went to jail and a lot of the drivers lost their licenses. I worked on there for a few weeks about 6mths before this all happened. The traffic office would be on the phone pushing you to run bent, maintenance was almost none existent and the geezer in the warehouse was storing most of the stuff on his own account.
what a fairy tale you will be telling us you can do milan from calias in 3 hrs next
This myth about “someone” from ACH office going to prison for tacho offences + drivers losing HGV licences is just that a myth !! Please see my previous postings explaining how the French parent company re-registered the vehicles with Polish plates & employed cheaper Polish drivers !! R.I.P. A.C.H. !!!
Big Leggy,
Not sure of the dates Martin Griffin was on ACH, he lived in Witney. He lives up North now, on Containers for Maritime, but we speak every week so l get some more info off him & get back to you.
Aylesbury carnival around 1986/87 driver Mr ACH himself Dave Mortimer.
Hi Big Leggy, I was sorry to see that Martin Kempster had died; when was this, I worked with Martin at JMM in Buckingham many years ago, nice guy. Can anyone get Gentleman George on here it would be good to speak with him again.

E700 BBH 1644 Merc, Alf Milton had it from start to finish if i remember rightly mainly Volvo & Scania but for some reason they used to buy a Merc every now and again.

Sorry to have to tell you about Martin Kempster – it was about 4yrs ago (I’ll let you know a more accurate date later) – died of “Big C” !! A pretty well full church in Tring on the day + over the pub after to give him a good send off ! He’s buried in Tring cemetry !
I knew Martin from just after Julien Mary Miles days, I knew Des (Tiny) Lee (RIP) pretty well and that’s when I got to know Martin – incidentally Des was at the funeral but in a wheel-chair !
I’m not just being vague on the date but around that time we had more than enough ACH funerals !!

I’m not sure if you are 100% correct on the drivers of the Merc’s – I seemed to remember Dave M. driving them at first (wrong again ■■) although latterly you are right it was Alf Milton (as of today Alf is well & keeping ok [news via John Bullard]) !!
I was under the impression the Merc’s came from the “local dealer” in Aylesbury under a form of leasing deal (wrong again ■■) & Dave being a non-smoker + seniority was the ideal choice of driver for a vehicle that was to be returned !!
This is a message from gentleman george who is with me. He says hi to everyone who asked after him and would love to see some pictures. He is about to come into the 21st century and get himself a computer but in the meantime if anyone would love to leave some messages i would be only too pleased to show him, and the pictures too!!!
Hi (Sharon?),
Thanks for posting that, Im sure you will get thousands of replies as George was/is regarded as a really top class bloke. A credit to our profession. Please say a big hullo from me will you, I
ve not seen him for a very long time (Wheelhouse, 1990?), but remember him with great affection. Yes get him on here, it would be good to chat, I know many other of us will feel the same about that, or lend him your computer and teach him how to use it.
All the very best, Archie.

When I am at home though I am always available for work. I do a fair bit for two companies and keep quite busy.( but always looking for more, especially abroad) If / when you get up and running with the computer, please look on my thread of Anglo Greek and you`ll meet a few old friends.
All the best, Archie.

Glad you are a satisfied customer/owner of an ex A.C.H. vehicle… This isn’t one I drove as I was a Scania man (latterly Renault Magnum).
There is an earlier posting on this thread from “berewic” who claimed to have driven for A.C.H. (■■) and he states that the servicing & maintenance of the vehicles was non existent – I think the fact that the vehicle in question served you so well obviously lays “berewic” lie to rest !!
