Last time i did it, the driver is responsible for the trailer unloading and realoading at the store, in practice some others will be there to take the cages and pallets from the scissor lift or loading bank as you bring them off…some shops better than others as usual.
Are you using fridges?, in which case are you using Asda natty 2 position 5th wheel?
There is no rush, the job takes as long as it takes, no one should have a go at you for time taken, the work is easy enough IMO.
NB…if your journey ends up needing a second break, then unless its changed they will not pay you for the second break, this is most unusual as everywhere else i’ve been has paid the second break…unless you’ve took the P and wangled the second break in unjustified, which is fair enough.
This latter point applies to their own drivers too, well according to an ex George driver i know.
I don’t know what it’s like in Washington but iv done some asda work in grangemouth in Scotland it is easy. I was working for an agency I went in signed in they gave me a unit told me to go and pick up a trailer and come back once I coupled my trailer up went back and got my paper work. The paper work is easy all you do is give it to the store they check it off and sign it u then sign it and give it back to the depo. When u get to the store you hand ball the pallets to the tailgate and they do the rest. Once I went back to the depo I didn’t even put the trailer into a bay the shunters do all that it is pretty easy work they even give u a map and directions to get to the stores.
I’ve posted in the other threads similar to this but each store you go to is different. The office tell you whether to pick the rubbish (recycling) up etc. If you tell them at the store that you are new to the job 99% of them will talk you through it. Some of them do try and take the p but if they ask you to take recyling (or local as ASDA call it) and you aren’t down for it then just ring the office and ask them what they want you to do. You don’t need to think about anything, if you are not told to do something but are then asked or told you ‘must’ then just ring the office to confirm if they want you to do it. The ‘local’ collection (waste) will always be written on the manifest, sometimes they may ask you to take empty pallets back, same thing, ask the office.
I’m not sure where the recyling centre in up in the North East but in the North West there are 3 distribution centre’s and sometimes they wont want you running to the recycling centre if you are half empty and will have you bring it back so they can top it up.
The morale is, the office tell you what to do - you just follow them.
Your job at the store is to unload the vehicle and load the vehicle if needs be, depending on what the situation is like (if there is only 1 guy and he is struggling) then I will help him take the cages or pallets a bit further, but that just depends, each store in different (and so too are the warehouse staff !!!)
yea but you gotta be able to ride a pump truck around a set course and only a certain amount of time to do it in, the fastest time gtes his money back for the course
work for them before as a agency driver get only local job about 3-4 drop,so 8 h shift-2h driving,2h work,1 break and 3 watch tv and waiting for load-not for me,lots of papework before u leave the gate, most weekend shift start at 3pm or 1am,that in RDC,in George one much better,i think is some more long distance work, dont know about ADC
I used to work instore for Asda, if we were waiting for the delivery (chilled) then we used to help the driver unload the cages. But it was usually the backdoor man and the driver, and the stores should have pallet trucks, its just a case of wrangling them off the staff (we used to use them on the shop floor)

Did the backdoor man and the driver have somewhere private to go?
Wait for paperwork, go to unit and hook up to trailer.
Fill out paper work before hooking up or pull off bay somewhere out the road. If you get a run with two stores on you’ll have two bits of paper out of what I can only describe as an old 90’s printer (You know, the holes in the side) just keep this but don’t even look at it. It’s the stores.
The other is your check list.
Fill out times you arrive at store, start unload, end unload, leave store. The rest is done by the gatehouse.
Remeber to fill out your start/finish mileage!
Stop at gatehouse on the way out, THEN put your seal on the back.
Stores sometimes tip you but 9/10 times you’ll just throw it out the back onto a fork lift or straight into a bay. The store takes it from the rear of the trailer. If you get empties, just stick em on and head back to the depot.
DO NOT take empties back from your first store if you are going to more than one.
Any issues, get the phone number - avoid calling with the isotrak machine thing.
Oh, and don’t press the red button in the cab.
Units are all mainly scannys. Autos with a clutch pedal.
When you arrive to start your shift, have your greencard, tacho and both parts of licence ready for photocopy.
