Artic work

Would £480 take home (no nights out) be considered decent money for approx a 50 hour week?

I know it’s a bit vulgar to ask about pay but I’d appreciate some feedback.

The job is salaried.

Cheers.

It’s certainly more than a lot of others money wise. But it depends entirely on what the job is as to whether that could be considered “decent” or not.

Depends where you live and what’s involved and how approx 50 is. I doubt it’s less than 50.

Well since that’s nearly £130 more than I take home every week for the same hours and with no nights out, then I’d say it sounds OK. Is this job near Glasgow by any chance?[emoji12]

That’s approx £620 top line, so it’s not bad if is for 50 hrs imo

So long as you’re not piloting a STGO 3 car transporter, it’s fair money!

Thanks for the replies.
It’s just that where I work, I could drive a rigid on hourly rate for not far off the same dough.
Either 10+ drops a day on a rigid and over 12 hour days or one hits on an artic and job and knock.
Don’t what to do for the best really [emoji3]

Just re-read my last post…it’s a no brainer really looking at it that way.

I’d say £480 is a good whack for 50 hours, especially if it’s Monday - Friday.

Aye one hitter and the rest?

Be weary of these salaried positions. Usually salary for a reason - so they can shaft you at no extra cost.

I was on days no nights out for DHL, and if I had a very good week I would take home £450 for around 55 hrs.
So yes, I would say that’s a good wage.

£32,500 a year or £625 a week before tax. Not too bad for 50hrs.

Dunno the firm involved but I will bet you a pound to a penny the supposed 50 hours a week approximately will end up considerably longer hours, maxing out 13 and 15 hour days. I speak from long and somewhat bitter experience. If you take the job I really do hope I am wrong.

I would always take class 1 work over class 2 and especially given those conditions and if there’s nothing particularly bad about the class 1 job and the pay’s good. If you intend to do class 1 work, it’s best to be getting class 1 experience – take a class 2 job and if your class 1 driving skills don’t rust over the time you do that job, any future employer will think they have done. They can always find a foreign driver who has the experience.

(Then again, I just passed up a class 2 job for what I thought would be an ongoing class 1 position, and it’s been a disaster. Bad hours – always finishing after 9pm; belligerent and impatient forklift drivers at the depot where I get most of the freight; attempts to overload and stack things without proper security. The guys said it was how they always do it and they seemed to have no idea how heavy their pallets of flooring tiles were. Have quit.)

Again, thanks for the input.
Will try out the class one job - I won’t know unless I have a go.

British tradition of pretending to be offended when talking pay is from the dark age. Social notion probably invented by rich mill owners who didn’t want the great unwashed comparing their crap money. Even discussing the subject in this day and age, some peer at you like you’ve just asked if they have crabs.

Not in this scenario. Thankfully.

+1.

Salary is only good for the company involved. I know through experience.

Ken.

where i work, the work is easy,i cant remember the last time i did any handballing,i would say its 50/50 side tip, back door tip.you dont get the traffic office on the phone all the time nagging you even though the traffic manager is an idiot (and from reading comments on here he is not the only one) the oldest truck on the fleet is 5 yrs old and that is used by a day man,all of us trampers cabs have coffee makers and fridge freezers fitted so all in all not a bad job.
money…last week i did 61hrs with 5 nights out and took home after tax £550,when you think about it if you take off the night out money the wage is not all that good but im ok with it,im not under any pressure or bullied to brake the law and tbh im fairly happy with the job,i must be ive been here nearly 20yrs!!!
