It’s all been said here

BUT take the Queens Shilling and be ready for what they pay you for

Go where your told
Do what your told
SHOOT what your told
KILL what your told

People go in love it and when it comes to crunch they say " I didnt join to Kill someone " Well thats what Armys Navys and Air force’s DO.

So If you can do the 4 rules above you’ll be fine… If not then stay home

Wow Lol i dont want to be on front line i just want to do logistics Lol

Thats the problem join the army etc see the world
just remember your first roll is to defend and kill.
Your basic training will cosist of drill marching … thats all about how to move a body of men / women in an orderly maner
then you learn how to shoot then you learn how to do what trade you want to do
so if you aint wanting to kill dont join.
I’m not saying you will ever kill anyone but thats what the forces do and train you to do

part of Logistics is getting things to the front line, but to be honest you would probably never get within miles of it in logistics, but you would end up in war zones for a good part of your time in the forces

Yeah true but i cant see me ever killing anyone driving a truck i wont proberly ever get near enough to where ever there all fighting.

This sums it up Josh

A soldiers Christmas Blessing

IT 'WAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS,
HE LIVED ALL ALONE,
IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE,
MADE OF PLASTER AND STONE.
I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY,
WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE,
AND TO SEE JUST WHO,
IN THIS HOME, DID LIVE.
I LOOKED ALL ABOUT,
A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE,
NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS,
NOT EVEN A TREE.
NO STOCKING BY MANTLE,
JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND,
ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES,
OF FAR DISTANT LANDS.
WITH MEDALS AND BADGES,
AWARDS OF ALL KINDS,
A SOBER THOUGHT,
CAME THROUGH MY MIND.
FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT,
IT WAS DARK AND DREARY,
I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER,
ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY.
THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING,
SILENT, ALONE,
CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR,
IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME.
THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE,
THE ROOM IN DISORDER,
NOT HOW I PICTURED,
THE GREAT BRITISH SOLDIER.
WAS THIS THE HERO,
OF WHOM I’D JUST READ?
CURLED UP ON A PONCHO,
THE FLOOR FOR A BED?
I REALIZED THE FAMILIES,
THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT,
OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS,
WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT.
SOON ROUND THE WORLD,
THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY,
AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE,
A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY.
THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM,
EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR,
BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS,
LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE.
I COULDN’T HELP WONDER,
HOW MANY LAY ALONE,
ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE,
IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME.
THE VERY THOUGHT BROUGHT,
A TEAR TO MY EYE,
I DROPPED TO MY KNEES,
AND STARTED TO CRY.
THE SOLDIER AWAKENED,
AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE,
“SANTA DON’T CRY,
THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE;
I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM,
I DON’T ASK FOR MORE,
MY LIFE IS MY GOD,
MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS.”
THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER,
AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP,
I COULDN’T CONTROL IT,
I CONTINUED TO WEEP.
I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS,
SO SILENT AND STILL,
AND WE BOTH SHIVERED,
FROM THE COLD NIGHT’S CHILL.
I DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE,
ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT,
THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOUR,
SO WILLING TO FIGHT.
THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER,
WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE,
WHISPERED, “CARRY ON SANTA,
IT’S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE.”
ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH,
AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT.
“MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND,
AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT.”

By it’s very nature logistics is the complete supply chain from manufacture to delivery with a lot in between so the numbers involved are very large with only a limited number going forward, logistics is ordering the stuff, storing it and delivering it, if your job is delivering then you may go to the front, it would be no good the person who orders all the bullets being at the front and getting shot, who would order the bullets then?

Giblsa:
now a days josh there is no front and rear line as such. the enemies of our country now dont define front lines and rear support, it is all front line stuff now mate. no one can sit a hangar waiting for a job now. we all do patrols and get shot at at some stage or other!

I do take on board that front lines are not the same as wars of the past though and can see how a resupply unit could find itself under fire at any given time, but the troops would only really work in a defensive role I would have thought?
Still getting shot at though

Joshh if you are good at maths and science then enquire about going to welbeck 6th form college, this is a military 6th form college, you will spend 2 years here then go on to uni to do a technical type degree, then sandhurst for a year, then you join your unit as an officer. The military sponsor you through 6 th form and uni so this might appeal to your parents.
If you need some more info pm me.

Well, on my last tour (Iraq) I was sent over in the driver role. I spent four months driving an armoured merc g-wagon escorting a member of the hierarchy whilst he did his rounds visiting the fobs (forward ops base). The lead vehicle was taken out by IED’s (road side bomb) nine times in those four months. My vehicle had fresh bullet holes almost every day.

The tour before that (Afghan), I was delivering aviation fuel to the heli stations. I was taliban target number one, or at least it seemed that way.

As an Ex Airborne warrior all I’d like to say is, CRAP HATS one and all.

Pah! Para’s had 'em for breakfast when I was attached to 5 AB Bde in Aldershot in the 80’s.

Not trying to stir it up or anything but why can a royal marine get the para’s wings but a para cant get the dagger?

when i was training as a chef at aldershot for the navy there were loads of para’s wearing t-shirts with “god is airborne” on them, my instructor (a C/SGT RM) got one made up with “god is airborne” on the front and on the back had “cos he’s a fanny and failed the commando course”, it didnt go down too well in the pubs but caused a bit of a stir to say the least!

You can have all three. Para, Commando, PTI…

Josh,

Tank Transporters are an A trade in the RLC. BUT if that’s what you want to do then you will need to be a civvy and join the agency that supplies the drivers for the Tank Transporters. They are part of a PFI contract. You will need to join the TA so you can go on operations.

Like I said before, you wont do much driving in the Army. Have you thought about 17 Port and Maritime Regiment? Join the Army as a Port Op. You get to drive cranes, big forklifts, big machines of all types and can even pilot a ship. If you want home time forget the forces. It’s only a job for the single man too.

I was in the Para’s and enjoyed my time with the Army.
My cousin joined up in the RAF last year. Life seems very easy and relaxed, but he’s bored, because of the slow pace of work/life.

The Army basic training will be much harder than the RAF, but personally I think the Army is more enjoyable long-term. The RAF may well make for a better career, but I’m hardly the one to speak about careers.

If you want to marry and have children in the next few years, then you’d be better not joining because relationships are not easy and are prone to fail when you are in the forces.

If you are gay, then I think it’s okay these days. Don’t get too excited when the doc tells you to bend over and later proceeds to feel your nuts, unless he comments on how ‘big’ you are and starts rubbing against your old man.

My advice - join the Para’s then go on to selection with the Regiment. Do 10 years, leave and join the circuit or write a book. If you write a book, don’t say anything about the doctor.

Paul.
