Why not start a government petition to allow LGV’s to undertake on the hard shoulder as the government seem keen to utilise the hard shoulder for all manner of things these days.
could we not designate it officially as …paddys must make the boat… lane.
Drivers sitting on the limiter cause elephant races, simple as that.
It’s human nature to overtake a slower vehicle and I can totally understand that. The problems start when there is a negligible speed differential between the two! I admit that I used to be one of them “sit on the limiter, must get past” type of drivers, until it finally sunk into my thick head that there was a better way. I now set cc for about 3 mph under the limiter, I catch someone up, floor it and pass them relatively quickly.
End result is I haven’t got hunched up shoulders, I’m not constantly looking for hills to give me a little extra to pass, and I’m not “that” guy that other road users despise for holding them up for 6 miles.

Some of the stuff on this thread is comical, you’ve got the 56mph merchants saying the 50mph merchants are only gaining seconds when they overtake but are causing others untold heartache, I’ve never heard so much [zb] in all my life, the 56 mph merchants are holding others up while they overtake so what’s all the high an mighty stuff all about??
Some of you lot wanna spend a few days goin at 50 mph, it’s less stress, less hassle…all you’ve gotta watch out for is the 56 mph merchants nearly taking the front of the cab off coz you’ve put them out and made you overtake them
Okay, so its us and them
We as wagon drivers are not the only users of the roads , honest we aren’t, really
So you couldn’t give a flying [zb] about holding other road users up? Nice
A 56mph can overtake a 50/52mph reasonably quickly but overtaking something (not just wagons) when they are doing 0.1 of a mile slower than you is the overtaker just being a selfish knob and doing the Elephant syndrome causing an unnecessary rolling road block in number two lane.
I was driving a little Japanese rental box the other day. That was a horrible experience trying to overtake other wagons. Since its a puddle jumper they assume you are an arse and since its got “rental” written on the side of it they also think you’re some shumck. I was trying to get past this tanker but as soon as I get down the side of him we’re doing the same speed. Cars backing up behind me, I’ve got no where to go and he’s not letting off to let me back in.
commonrail:
Just set the cc 3 or 4 clicks under max
Move out… floor it…move back in.
You guys are ■■■■■■■ in the wind with this advice. It’s far too sensible for the ‘pedal to the metal’ brigade, it’d cost them literally minutes on a journey.
lizard:
I’m quiet happy to sit out there at 55mph whilst overtaking another doing 54.99mph.
lizard:
Couldn’t give a crap.
What an utter bell end.
Driver and screwdriver springs to mind,Lizard must think other road users shouldn’t be on the road BUT they are doing the same as him getting somewhere
The only bellends on here are all the bellends that are calling me 1.
you all need to get in the real world and admit that every single 1 of you, do/have/have done/will do again, exactly what we all do on a daily/weekly occurrence. so before going off calling people bellends why don’t you all look at yourselfs and come to grips who the real bellends are, you ■■■■■■■■■■

Because if he’s limited to that slow the last thing he needs is to be held up 0.1mph
To be fair if he’s overtaking something he’s overtaking, no laws on how quick this has to be but agree if he’s just hanging out there blocking off the road taking miles to overtake then its a bit inconsiderate.
Flash his headlghts at the caravan fella to get his arse into gear would have been a better option rather than bringing all stanstead nose to tail and seth chomping on the bit to get home satdy
Yes that would work. He would then back off, let Argos trucker overtake safely and everyone would be friends? Meanwhile back in the real world: What would happen is caravan man would be more of a ■■■■, Argos trucker would start getting ■■■■■■ off and showing it, someone would be filming it and before you know eveyone on here would be blaming the Argos trucker for being aggressive and unprofessional
Some right div drivers on here who think they own the highways, they shouldn’t be let loose with a pedal car let alone a 44 ton possible killing machine!!! Glad i’m out of this rat race now …
I ■■■■■■ hate other drivers of any vehicle that hold you out for as long as possible when overtaking. Then the spastics flash you in when you’re about 2 feet past their nose, THEN the retards decide they’re a bit close and back off. Why don’t they just slow down for 5-10 secs and let you past in the first place??
I don’t know if it’s ignorance or arrogance but I suspect it’s the latter most of the time.
These ■■■■■■■ should be made aware that when a truck is overtaking, due to the fact they are limited the ONLY person that can allow them to get past a bit quicker is the vehicle being overtaken.
Unless it’s another truck with it’s limiter set to 60 I always slow down, I’d feel like a right prick being involved in one of these lengthy overtaking maneuvers. I’ve seen trucks overtaking each other on 2 lane motorways and dual carriageways for miles, sometimes gaining and losing a bit when it comes to the hills, the heavier loaded gaining on the downhill, the more powerful/lighter loaded gaining on the uphills.
It’s not so bad on a 3 lane M/way (still not ideal tho!!) but on a 2 lane it’s murder.

Try it at 50 buddy ,thats what i had to endure ,i few fellas on here think thats ok
My dad thinks the same way “if they want past, then it takes as long as it takes, why should I slow down” he doesn’t drive commercially anymore but I know there’s plenty who think the same way and there’s no telling them anything different!

Many of us have indeed done as you do, I certainly have, but have since learnt the error of our ways. If I ever do it again it’ll be because of my own misjudgement on a hill or whatever, which is different to not caring like yourself & to be honest i’d probably just ease off and pull back in behind.
Holding other traffic up & causing congestion just so you can go 0.1mph faster and get your your destination seconds quicker is wholly selfish and completely nonsensical. I know you don’t give a crap, which is unfortunate, but some of us care about our image on the roads and being courteous to other road users. You know, acting in a professional manner.
“Treat others as you would wish to be treated yourself” is a good principal to live by. Whilst in your car would you like to get held up behind someone like yourself for miles on end carrying out a pointless manoeuvre at 15mph under the speed limit?

that’s you that doesn’t understand the meaning of the highway code.
a speed LIMIT is a safe speed for you to travel at, which means in layman’s terms,
LIMIT not TARGET

Good reply. I think the most offence was taken at your “I couldn’t give a crap” line when you describe your attitude to holding a queue of cars behind you for mile after mile. I have spent no end of time in the car stuck behind the likes of you along the A50 and you and your ilk are, as LHD says, utter bell ends.
We have similar situation in our place, absolutely every one is moaning about tight yard, but nobody give a zb about parking up and at last to try not to block anything. On roads the same everybody crying about bad overtaking habits but do exactly the same just with the few miles difference on the clock. I wish to see this country on a Belgian rules, no overtaking for hgv on dual carriage roads at all, except for nights , or the French way, no overtaking while raining, plus the ban for it at certain places. That would be fun!
