Argos trucks

seth 70:
I see argos have joined the rolling road block gang by limiting their motors to 50,its fair enough for lorries to plod along at 50 on dual carriageways etc,but not on mways ,they should leave them set at 56 but tell the driver to try and stick to 50,the reason for my winge is because a argos motor decided he fancied overtaking a caravan this morning on the way up the m11,FFS talk about elephant racing ,it went on for yonks a neither would give way, propper knobs :smiling_imp:

The worst bit about it was ,i flashed the argos man so he could overtake the caravan,he did me like a kipper ,when i got past him i looked thru my nearside widow and he avoided all eye contact or acknowledgement of me ,he was not phased one bit, these motors set at 50 are bang out of order for traffic flow etc,a truck doing 50 on a mway is as bad as tractors on the a1 :smiling_imp:

You didn’t need to do such an obscene thing, the catelogues are free don’t you know?

Company lowers the limit and its the drivers that get all the flack.

It’s a speed LIMIT, not a TARGET, and I can 99.99% put my neck out and say the argos wagon (doing 50mph) is TAXED & INSURED so has every right to be in lane 2 of the M11 if he wishes and no 1 has the right to say that because he’s going slower than me that he can’t hold up the traffic behind him.
I’m quiet happy to sit out there at 55mph whilst overtaking another doing 54.99mph.
you don’t own the road just like no one else does so calm yourselfs down and take a chill pill and just let the day flow along.

Well 56/58mph travellers love you (sarcasm) as does everyone else who can legally do 70mph…ffs have respect for other road users, you cause part of the issues on the motorway network with that attitude.

Click your f’ing CC to 54mph and do the M11 a favour :unamused:

You made about hmmmm seconds maybe a minute on your journey overtaking ? but the inconvenience you caused to other road users is just a by product?

Couldn’t give a crap. I paid to do a job and that’s exactly what I do. I don’t give 2 monkeys if I hold anyone up, just like no one else cares.

You sound bang on pal, :unamused: :unamused:

Judging by the Argos trucks on the M5, I’d say they’re trying to beat the Royal Mail for the most abused but still road legal vehicles.

Why do it in the first place, driver and company are at fault m8,the bloke knew he was driving a slug so why try and overtake summat

Class man, keep it up, rock on, crack on, keep it lit… :unamused: …and breath…and more scotch :unamused:

Because if he’s limited to that slow the last thing he needs is to be held up 0.1mph

To be fair if he’s overtaking something he’s overtaking, no laws on how quick this has to be but agree if he’s just hanging out there blocking off the road taking miles to overtake then its a bit inconsiderate.

Flash his headlghts at the caravan fella to get his arse into gear would have been a better option rather than bringing all stanstead nose to tail and seth chomping on the bit to get home satdy :unamused:

Bet coach drivers love you :unamused:

Some of the stuff on this thread is comical, you’ve got the 56mph merchants saying the 50mph merchants are only gaining seconds when they overtake but are causing others untold heartache, I’ve never heard so much ā– ā– ā– ā–  in all my life, the 56 mph merchants are holding others up while they overtake so what’s all the high an mighty stuff all about??

Some of you lot wanna spend a few days goin at 50 mph, it’s less stress, less hassle…all you’ve gotta watch out for is the 56 mph merchants nearly taking the front of the cab off coz you’ve put them out and made you overtake them

Okay, so its us and them :unamused:
We as wagon drivers are not the only users of the roads , honest we aren’t, really

So you couldn’t give a flying ā– ā– ā– ā–  about holding other road users up? Nice

A 56mph can overtake a 50/52mph reasonably quickly but overtaking something (not just wagons) when they are doing 0.1 of a mile slower than you is the overtaker just being a selfish knob and doing the Elephant syndrome causing an unnecessary rolling road block in number two lane.

Drift:
I would like a database here of 50mph restricted firms, saves thinking about getting into the Elephant race syndrome
Then again you see a trailer of a firm you think is on a restricted 50mph limiter and wonder why you cant pass him and your doing 58mph, the realise its a subbie pulling the trailer

Same as when I was at Tesco and pulled a Stobart trailer, people must’ve wondered why it was doing 50

I’d be blaming the caravan rather than the Argos driver.

I’d put a fiver on the caravan driver being one of these slow down, speed up type people and Argos got fed up and tried to overtake but then got held out to dry by the caravan driver either being a thick bastart or playing games.

Yeah, I’d agree…

Caravan driver bumbling along, looks in his mirror, ā€œOh dear! I must be going too slow as one of them big lorries is overtaking me… I better speed up!!!ā€ and off the to55er goes…

Professional or not, Our trucks are limited at 50-52, I sit on CC at 50mph on motorways, if I have to I’ll slow down to 48mph if I’m behind a Adsa truck or a fool just out to slow traffic, fine by me… but when I’m continually having to cancel CC and continually adjust my speed from 50 down to 45, up to 48, down to 44, up to 50 and so on, for a long distance… I’d be desperate to pass the idiot, screw everyone else being held up behind me, as in those circumstances, in my mind… I’m holding nobody up, he is holding everyone up lol

Our wagons are limited to 52 and I wouldn’t have it any other way. You get used to it. I’m in no rush. Lane 1, CC on, chill out & let everyone else worry about overtaking. It’s bliss.

Amazing how worked up lorry drivers get over 4-6mph.

it was better in the 1980’s…the Gardner boys trundling along in the low-mid 50’s in the ā€˜slow’ lane, most of the rest of us cruising past them in the low 60’s…and the Irish lads in the 141’s and F88s coming past us all in the ā€˜fast’ lane

Couldn’t agree with you more… its bad enough having motorists constantly sit in either the middle lane of a 3 lane motorway or the outside lane of a 2 lane motorway, when your trying to pass a slower moving vehicle without this ā– ā– ā– ā–  adding to it. We a seen as nuisance on the roads by the majority of other motorists as it is. No wonder really with planks like him. If ever im in a position where i suddenly can’t complete an overtake, i will drop back in behind and then apologise to all the passing traffic by raising my hand. Thats normally enough to stop me getting abuse from them as they pass by… But to just sit out there with a ā€œI dont give a crapā€ attitude, just goes to show the mentality of this so called professional driver…

Why not start a government petition to allow LGV’s to undertake on the hard shoulder as the government seem keen to utilise the hard shoulder for all manner of things these days.
