We’re shut down for two weeks from Tuesday 24th onwards. We trunkers are in on the night of the 23rd but I can’t imagine there’ll be much to do. Then we’re not back in until 2nd Jan.

I will be laid off this Friday and will spend the xmas holidays worrying where my next job is coming from. Fed up of changing agencies and quite frankly never bargained for this crap when I did my CPC and test back in July. 7 lads working with me on this job are squaddies and getting a army pay as well as this! My advice to any young uns out there thinking of a career doing HGV 1 is think again.
Oh dear, that’s rough news just before Christmas. Whereabouts in West Yorkshire are you? Someone on here might know of something going.

I am between Leeds and Bradford. Since July I have signed on for 6 agencies all of which have spun lies to get you in then you find the truth. One of them that I was with for a week put me on Redhead Int. deckers down to palletforce, not great work especially for £9.50 an hour night shift but a job none the less. Did it for 3 days then on the Monday had no shift! She said I would be back in there Tuesday but then on Monday night text me to say it was off! So called her and she said how she had been playing hell with them (yeah right) but she had got me a good job for tuesday, IKEA, Multi drop delivering flat pack furniture to customers. So that was a waste of a week and I moved on! Just fed up of it. another said we can have you in DHL tonight, another said container work which turned out to be a 7.5 tonner doing deliveries for £6.80 an hour! Sorry for the rant but I am up to my teeth with ■■■■■■■ agencies!
My brother worked on various agencies round that way for a while (he lives in Otley). He said exactly the same thing: they promised the earth and delivered very little. There are good jobs out there, but they’re not as easy to find as they once were. Have you got an ADR or anything like that? That can help sometimes. Good luck with finding something.
Our shifts this year are bloody crap.
Working Christmas Eve morning, then off for 2.
Only NYE off.
Hate it at times. Some finish on friday and don’t go back till next year!
Off Xmas eve and Xmas day back in 5am Boxing Day but will be getting triple time + so worth doing. Off new year though but we lucky any thing over 39 hours is at time and half
Sats at time and half
Sundays double time
I’d say being prepared to work nights and weekends gets you a lot more work than any number of tickets and experience.
How else does one explain “no work despite having moffet, adr, hiab, DCPC all done” whilst some 25 year old seemingly gets first dibs at even the low-paid work you might still be prepared to do?
One would expect an employer to pick local talent over immigrant, having accepted that the pay is whatever it is… That’s not how it ends up though is it?
Ask for weekday starts between 6am & 9am, and you’ll be laid up for weeks at a time in January. I’m quite happy grabbing a sunday here, a thursday there on nights… I won’t be asking for days at all - no point when it’s dark and cold and still daytime eh? Plump for the extra work and money that goes with nights & weekends my friends…
Finish on the 24th but on standby for gritting the roads , have to stay sober just incase .

I know it’s completely off topic but when I started out this spring/summer I told my agency I’d do ANYTHING and I ment absolutely ANYTHING. Nights/days, tramping, odd nights out, weekends, class 2, class 1, 7.5 tonne, van. All the ■■■■ no one else wants to do. It worked and I was working every single day I could. Who are they going to ring if a job comes up, Dave who might do it if it’s a 1 hit trunk with no night out, or me who couldn’t care less as long as the money is right.
I told my current place the same, jut to get a full time job, it’s not ideal the hours I’m doing now but hey its a start and I’m getting that all important experience in. In a couple of years I’ll ask for a change of shift pattern if they don’t play along, I’ll look for something else.
I definitely think making yourself available is the way forward, none if this no starts before 6am, finished by 5pm, only want 2 drops max, not doing a Saturday or Sunday, not going further than 200k from base crap some drivers demand and then wonder why the phone isn’t ringing.
Hello everybody.
I am new to this forum.
I am 20 years old and work at Morrisons retail as a sales assistant. I would really like to become a Tank driver. I have lots of questions to ask.
How can I get started.
Cost of training, included length.
Will I be employable as such a young age.
hourly rates for new and experience drivers.
Hours pw. etc…
Thank you
I’d guess if you want to be a tank driver, you’re best off popping into the local army careers office - if there are still any around these days.
Seriously though - which depot of Morrisons are we talking about here?
There are not many firms who’ll let you work on agency for them without 2 years experience and be over age 25.
The last full time job I applied for myself was at Morrisons… I didn’t get it though, so I’m thinking that not grating with the interviewer is more important than loads of experience and a clean licence.

On agency you will only get the odd day until March. You have got to remember with agencies that you are only a name on a list they have no work unless the phone rings asking for a driver.
Off xmas eve, have had to work till 4.30 xmas day in the past. Boss has offered to use it as holiday and bit his hand off. back in Friday 27th. That’s a pretty good hol considering the way things are going with 24/7 life people expect now.
