I’ve always thought that drivers did the job until it was done.
It would appear not.

That told you ■■■■, if you dont like 13 hour days or longer your in the wrong job, try sommat else
Quite honestly there is some real knobs trolling around, as I’m on day rate I don’t seek 13’s and 15’s as it puts me either near or below minimum wage. Get another job - sure they grow on trees don’t they…pricks.
Thanks to the others who at least tried a sensible answer.

No ones trolling ■■■■! it’s upto you!
the screwdriver!
DAILY REST may BE REDUCED THREE TIMES A WEEK!
when said screwdrivers get a set!
they can work less hours for more money! MAY REDUCE IS THE CLUE TO YOUR SENSIBLE QUESTION!
The maximum legally is a 15 hours shift so all that remains is how much rest the driver needs after doing that and before someone says that would be a max of 9, no its not, because there is nothing to stop a driver extending that minimum 9 hour legal rest into a longer period
I have not yet met a driver who cannot safely manage a 15 hour shift unless they had insuffucient rest beforehand
I can and have done maxxed out weeks with minimum breaks, but you won’t have seen me bleeding on about it because I had an hourly rate plus overtime, that said I can still remember well how wasted I was at the end of that week.
I can’t believe people sit there like some keyboard warrior and decide to have a pop because I ask the advice of others if I have a legal way of discouraging my employer of working me at minimum wage, that’s heroes for you I guess, living the dream in their frilly curtained Scania and rigger boots.

Did it ever occur to you that jobs are not exactly growing on trees Dave ? Wtf is wrong with some people, is it such a crime to ask where you stand within the guidelines set out to try and stop yourself from being exploited? Besides which I actually quite like working where I am, hours issue put to one side.

Well there you are then 13+day providing you have a 15hr shift left should not be a problem How are you risking being exploited? Are you being paid all the hours you work legally? if not then theres a chance you are being exploited[nobody works for nowt]if you are fully paid no problem.

An employer insisting on the driver doing a very long shift is not a problem for most
An employer insisting on not enough rest between shifts can be a problem for many
I often used to do a few long shifts in a row but it meant starting later each day so that I could get in the rest I needed to be safe
if you are fully paid no problem.
Yes minimum wage…anyway I can see this is like banging your head against a tree here, over and out.
I took 11hrs and 50m rest, my 11hrs rest and 25m each way for travelling to and from work, by the letter of the rules afaik.
Planners aren’t allowed to plan us over 12… That’s clock in to clock out, not just on the road.
Anything that will take us over we can refuse to do.

Thats a good employer.
Sadly, few and far between. If you work for one of the many where it is common practice for drivers to be exploited and work max hours day in day out for crap money, you are ■■■■■■■ in the wind trying to make a point by refusing stuff etc. if all the other drivers are getting on with it and its set in the culture of the company. Best off just keeping your head down and cracking on whilst your bills are still getting paid and keep an eye out for another job. No, they don’t grown on trees, but easier to get one whilst still employed rather than after they have found a reason to bin you off because your regarded (rightly or wrongly) as a pain in the arse.
check your contract of employment
Is there a legal obligation to have such a thing? I have been with a company for just over a year now (full time) but have never seen or signed anything. Are there any pros and cons in this situation?
If you are “Planned” on a trip designed to be 15 hours, then you can “plan” to go off-duty just before the 15 hours is up regardless.
Eg. 11 hours into your duty, you’re asked to run to a drop 2 hours away that’s 2 hours out from base - thus leaving no room to maneuver.
On reaching this point of being asked to “run it to the wire”, I usually contact the office to ask them the name of the person who’s going to come out and pick me up in the anticipated layby I’ll be in somewhere along the return route…
Of course in the real world, You’ll be somewhere on the far side of the channel on a friday afternoon when asked to do this, which pushes upon you the idea of "Rush, and/or run bent for the firm that loves you, or be stuck for a weekend on the wrong side of the channel!"
