Are you happy in your own company

It shows that you need to be a certain character to be a driver. The ability to work on your own is what is attractive to me.
Last year 'er indoors went to the Edinburgh fringe festival and I didn’t want to go. She took her mate and I instead slung a backpack on my shoulder and visited mulhouse and Strasbourg for a few days. Happy as Larry walking around and sight seeing on my own

discoman:
Make what you want of it, just putting it out there lol.

I make nothing of it as the point it I don’t understand any of it, hence ‘is it written in code?’

Forgive me if I missed the point here Luke and you are winding him up for some reason, but if not I think he’s referring to our resident TN super tramper dozy.

There lies the difference between you and me, I’d rather share a weekend with my Mrs than with anybody, and as for spending it by myself, I get enough of that at work.
I’ll gladly work all week see nobody and not be bothered, as for weekends I like people around me, wife, friends, and family.

As Rob Roy says he likes the company of people of his own choosing. Your work mates etc. were chosen by some one else and for different reasons. A wise old guy said Its better to want what you dont have than have what you dont want.

Out of the 30+ drivers at my place, there are only about half a dozen tops that I have any time for…who knows?, maybe that says more about me personally.

There is only about one driver there of a similar age and experience to myself who is on the same wavelength as me, sees through all the co. b/s, hidden agendas, and like me does not believe everything he is told by the co, .and sees things for what they REALLY are. :bulb:

The rest are a mixture of different types ranging from the ‘not bothered apathetic’ types, to the yes men, to the types always looking for praise and wanting pats on the back, to the blatant arse crawlers, and those somewhere in between.

Not sure how popular or unpopular I am by voicing my opinions to them on a regular basis   …,.(and to be perfectly honest I could not give a flying ■■■■ either way)
I just give 100% to my job but with no extras, and keep my head down, not interested in any praise or credit,.and let em get on with it.
You can choose your friends, but not your colleagues.

Ahhhhh ok! That went straight over my head!

No I’m not , I’m lucky as was brought up in a big family so was never on own , if weren’t with mum / dad were at uncles / aunts , loads of cousins & friends , weekend were all over country with mates watching rovers , now with mrs & she comes from a big family so always being visited or visiting by family , family holidays abroad , family parties , or not so much at moment , down pub with mates
Weekend was sat at my girls , sat night having a drink in garden with neighbours , sun visited my niece
I’m sorry but for people to suggest it’s normal to be on your own is rubbish , it’s not , it’s sad , I get some have had marriage splits ( though there’s plenty of single women out there to replace them ) but you’ve still got family , mum , dads , sisters , brothers , nieces etc etc etc you could visit & it’s a site more enjoyable that sitting on your Todd

I don’t think it’s aimed at me because I certainly don’t
Run in late on a Saturday , if I run in on a sat which is nigh on never these days it will be 2 hrs back to the yard so I’d be home by latest 7/8 am on sat mor not sat evening , I’ve only ever ate Ginsters buffet bars not pies so again not aimed at me , drinks wise it would be a couple of cans of cider / or 0asis but not Fanta so again not me
But if it is aimed at me I guess it’s because lots of drivers apparently have nothing to go home for & resent the fact I have , a mrs Who 99 % of the time will have cooked me a nice tea, layed my clothes out in bed & when I’ve come down fro shower will have poured me a can of cider , yes I’m bloody lucky & with my behaviour over the years don’t deserve her , but as you get
Older you do see life clearer than where’s the next cider comming from ,
This thread is sad in so many ways , but to a lot of us it’s reinforces how lucky we are to be normal people with normal family life’s

Ahh don’t get me wrong bud, I spend a lot of time on holiday and weekend away with the Mrs. What I was saying was that I didn’t want to go to Edinburgh but as I’m happy on my own I’m not afraid to chuck a bag on my back and spend a weekend alone.
To be honest it turned out to be a cracking weekend as I managed to get my passion of photography in without worrying if I’m boring the wife lol.

Very happy. Very, very happy.
Not particularly anti-social, just can’t be bothered making the effort when I’m tired, which, when you get to a certain age seems to be most of the time.
Then again, I’m probably just a miserable, grumpy old git.

that sums it up nicely there my good man…

Doesn’t self-censorship get on one’s elderly ■■■■ - the most of all? :stuck_out_tongue:

I like my own company. My girlfriend owns her own house and would jump at the suggestion I move in with her but I just like my own company too much so I live in a rented flat about 2 miles from her. Financially it makes no sense but after years of living in a traditional family environment I realised I like my own space these days. One day I’ll probably move in with her but not just now…

I’ve always enjoyed my own company, probably why I’ve spent over twenty years in various driving jobs. I usually find over the Xmas break after two weeks at home I’m climbing the walls to be in a vehicle again on me own , radio on. People in small doses is fine, I’m quiet outgoing and enjoy meeting people at the drops. In free time enjoy running, also quite solitary and no prob sitting in a pub with a pint watching the world go by [emoji106]

Other people have different preferences, its not difficult to understand.

I like living on my own. Even lockdown was fine. Usually I see people around 4 times a week and that is the right balance for me.

Been widowed 7 years, parents dead mogh on 30 years, not siblings, no family that i know of.

What you find enjoyable sounds like some version of hell to me, as my life probably does to you. Just I dont tell you your life is sad for being so dependent on others for happiness.

doze mate…it’s a bit of banter, don’t take stuff so ■■■■ serious man. :bulb:

I know we tend to wind each other up on here, but I’ve got to agree with you on the second half of your post bud.
I also have a wife who is second to none, I could not wish for a better woman, ex model, blonde,.still fit as, excellent cook, 101% trustworthy and faithful to me…what more could I want.
Always a meal made for me when I get home, and a cold can of beer waiting.
Over all the years it does not matter what time I have got up for work in a morning, she always gets up 5 mins before me to make me a coffee, and put up a few wraps or sarnies to take with me,.as well as filling my fridge tray with home cooked meals.
As I said,.I never get tired of spending time with her,.as well.as family,.and still manage to make time for mates to have a few pints and watch the football.
So we have summet in common after all eh?

Ah so that’s why you’re so utterly useless at life otherwise then, your wife isn’t around to tell you what to do

I forgot to add the most important bit of my last post.

Actually fella, it was not directed at you, it was a generalisation of trucking, prior to moving to Australia in 2012, I used my truck licence on days off to make extra money, Doing agency work for Arla out of ponders End. I had to take milk to Trafford in Manchester and got caught out stuck on a 15 managed to pull the card in a services… and that’s what I had it was a Friday evening, of course, they came out and collected me in a car, but that was illegal and I got home after an 18 hour shift, but hey got home.

Your, what I tell my mate to do, get his class one and see Europe, he is single no kids at home etc … I think, being on the road to see Europe must be a wonderful thing, he’s a loner so would be good for him, not saying your a loner, but enjoying your own company is a plus… with it being 2020 … FaceTime and internet on the go , not like it was in the 70’s/80’s…
